Scroby Sands is running aground. Removing one failed 2 MW turbine cost £12.5m — six times the per-turbine rate RWE is forecasting for the remaining 29. Subsidies run out soon, brining forward the decommissioning cost (1/10)
Future Discoveries implies new exploration. So are Labour lifting the ban on exploration drilling as well as approving Rosebank? We deserve to know, because if so, Miliband and Fahnbulleh might resign from the Cabinet.
This is…very confusing.
The Prime Minister insists that no decision on Rosebank has been taken…
But, the Office for Budget Responsibility have based their forecasts on, “estimates of the production from currently producing fields and the NSTAs estimate of production from development of new fields, which include ROSEBANK and from FUTURE DISCOVERIES.”
So, is it approved or not? Serious questions to answer from the Energy Secretary!
Government finally taking notice of rising policy and grid integration costs I discussed in my paper for @Prosperity_Inst. But these proposals don't go anywhere near far enough to make a significant difference. Link to paper in reply.
Replying to @7Kiwi
Pulling it all together, subsidies and grid integration costs set to double to £40bn from 2025 levels by 2031. This is inline with energy bosses who least year warned electricity bills would rise even if gas prices fell to zero. (5/8)

Chancellor says he wants to get UK energy prices "down in line with Europe". But Europe's prices are almost as high as ours. He's lacking ambition and should set a target to get below the IEA median at least. #Budget2026

This is misleading. He's not removing any costs, he's just loading gas standing charges on the unit rate. Higher users will be penalised, but lower users will benefit. All in all it's just deckchair shuffling.

If heat pumps are so good why do they need a £7,500 subsidy?
"Entire UK heat pump grant scheme costs 0.5% of what last gas crisis cost Treasury" @jessralston2 🤯
Cutting government pump schemes means
📍 More gas imported from overseas
📍 More reliance on North Sea (approx 90% already extracted)
📍 Damage to emerging heat pump industry & jobs in UK

Paul is slowly learning about the impact of renewables subsidies, backup, grid balancing and expansion costs are having on retail electricity prices. Those total costs set to double from 2024/25 levels by 2030/31.

UK and EU gas prices now almost 12X US prices. Good that the Government has approved Jackdaw, but to bring prices down we need even more supply. Time to get fracking.

6 High-frequency alerts so far today and grid balancing costs almost £40m, and it isn't even 4pm yet. Link in reply.

Fascinating poll about climate change and energy policy. I think I'm a Staunch Sceptic. It's clear we're getting the message across to the public, but a way to go before we get a plurality on our side of the argument.
NEW: A major new poll by @LordAshcroft unpacks the British public's conflicting opinions on climate change and Net Zero.
The public believe that climate change is already having a serious impact, but are also concerned about how Net Zero is being delivered and question whether it can be achieved affordably or if it can make a difference globally.🧵

In the vernacular, the electricity grid is FUBAR. The Government needs to take action to abandon CP2030 and start a crash programme to replace the dispatchable power stations the Tories gleefully blew up.
A really bad day for the UK electricity supply system! #bbcpm #PoliticsLive @CitySamuel @7Kiwi @clim8resistance @KathrynPorter26 @AndrewBowie_MP
£23 million balancing costs already!!
Looks like they are having to pay to constrain wind, five NESO high frequency alerts today 27/10!! Too much capacity generating on the grid!

Because the solution to expand the grid is more expensive than the balancing costs. Transmission costs set to triple from 2024/25 levels to £13.6bn by 2030/31. Balancing costs set to go up from £2.5bn to ~£7.3bn. The "solution" is more expensive than the problem. Link in reply.

Why don’t you explain that the bottlenecks in the grid are causing this imbalance and that solutions are being developed.
Problem & solution.
Not just constant bemoaning and undermining the work being done.
