I have been keeping a secret that I can FINALLY share with you all!!!!!
I'm partnering with @beehiiv to lead their Community Product.
It's LIVE now. Released today at the Summer Release Event which was...truly something (link in comments if you want to watch).
I love 0-1 work.
AND I love it even more when it means I'm on a team enabling more connection in the world.
It is now possible for hundreds (thousands?) of diligent writers, podcasters, business owners, growth teams, and publishers to launch a community with a tool they already use.
We have tried *very hard* to make getting started easy, manage, engage with, and grow your community.
If you're thinking...thanks for the tool, but where do I even start...
The beehiiv team and I are here to support you.
How? via...
- Calls where we jam on your community strat
- Helping you launch it
- Being a thought partner to ensure the dials are set up so the community and members thrive
- Listening to your feedback (and doing something great with it)
ALL of the above are part of my role (can't believe I get to do this for work 🥹)
That's how much it matters to the team that YOUR community succeeds. And that your members genuinely love their experience too.
There are 1 million business reasons to make community a part of your strategy.
But what's really freaking exciting for me is the idea of *so many more* communities being available for a variety of humans to join, participate in, nerd out in, connect in.
So yes, I'm repping community with the incredible @beehiiv team with whom it has been a privilege to work with over the last month.
And I'll still keep supporting all kinds of community architects by sharing more about the work that goes into community. I also hope this means I'll connect with + learn from more of them (you??). DMs and comments open!!
Now, I shall return to the work. I think @denk_tweets 🐝 just DM'ed me 234 ideas. See you all around here more. 💕
we really got podcast monetization and as of today VIDEO 📹📹 on @beehiiv before...
Handoff and coordination is such an expensive tax
Leaders are hoping to make everyone an AI leveraged super IC, but that only works if everyone’s speaking the same language via a cohesive system, including the people most responsible for coordination
Otherwise, we’ll have the most powerful models in the world & outcomes will change by less than 2% at an org
Don’t sleep on lowering the coordination tax at your org
Literally how I used Claude Chat back when it was helping me make changes to small things in Github.
So many screenshots. So much clicking.
Great way to learn!!
A few days a week, I dig into my self-report card prepared for a good spook. In honor of almost Halloween, I'll share this ritual with you 🎃
First, I look at a dashboard that has "communities launched" or "adoption %" which tie to some Rocks (beehiiv's version of KPIs). These are great!
If I stopped there, we'd be in Candyland all the time (great board game btw)
Instead, after an initial "ok everything is fine" moment, I'll dig into all of this *on behalf of* publishers who have launched communities on beehiiv:
> NL sub -> member conversation // how'd the launch go? Is the newsletter supporting this new product line?
> WAU // did members show up
> Contribution to consumption // are they engaging or consuming
> Member share of voice vs. creator // who's engaging, is this actually helping the creator scale themselves
> MAU, but split by members who joined less than 30 days ago vs. more than 30 days ago // because otherwise we'd be conflating new member excitement to long-term engagement
> Member engagement over the last 7 days // if members are showing up, are they contributing consistently?
> Creator feature adoption // is the admin using all the levers we have to offer
> WoW retention // how many of their members who showed up last week, showed up again this week
+ many, many more.
If a metric looks objectively great, I'm a skeptic and will dig in more to make sure it's honest. I have made up new measurement definitions in this pursuit...
Maybe we crushed our product goals! And we released the features! And adoption is excellent! BUT if I see some metrics from above that make be believe a community using our infra is at risk for becoming a "ghost town" that is spooky because I can't totally control it. I could DM the publisher, share tips, etc. but ultimately, there are so many factors that play into a successful community.
That being said, I'll keep going back for the occasional jump scare because it's my honest way to evaluate success a few layers deeper. Plus, what I can influence is the product which is better off with these learnings.
We'll continue engineering for engagement. No ghost towns here. Happy (early) Halloween!
I really love that the timeline gifts me laughs like this every once in a while
New goal: start posting unhinged stuff like this inside communities. Either the community manager is gonna love it or I’m about to get banned
builders at heart will say
"i'm gonna play video games bye"
and then come back with sh*t like this a few days later lol
the more I learn about this feature, the more I want to start a podcast because wdym it would be this easy to manage it all
Podcast ads are live on @beehiiv 🎙️💸
Dynamic ad insertion, a campaign manager, programmatic ads, and dedicated reporting.
I’ve spent years managing podcast ad ops across all kinds of platforms, so I came into this with a long wishlist.
Here’s what you can do 🧵
Use unsold ad inventory for House Promos
Even apply it to the back catalog so ppl listening to an ep published 6 months ago are still learning about what’s CURRENTLY happening in your universe
House promos inserted automatically without re-cutting or re-uploading, now on @beehiiv 🐝 !!
you learn something new everyday
#17 upload your own fonts
you can now upload your own fonts straight from the font picker in the @beehiiv website builder
your brand font. everywhere.

Creator-in-residence is going to be a new hot gig in 2027, calling it now
Seeing the occasional one pop up here and there, but so many companies still hesitate to do anything large-scale and long-term with a single creator
I think this is a hugely underutilized play
Anyone looking to help an amazing creator set up & launch their @beehiiv community?
Potential to turn into a longer term community manager role! Paid opp.
DM me if you’re interested + share your LinkedIn / website that I can pass on please ✨
The pen was inked this week
Wrote case studies for 3 very different kinds of communities running on @beehiiv
Did it because sometimes we just need to see some examples to feel inspired
