£10bn more to a lost war while Britain sinks. Wake up.
Ed Miliband’s announcement of another £10bn package for Ukraine (“we will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes”) is pure managed decline theatre.
Ukraine is militarily finished. Russia is not invading Europe. The proxy is over.
Retired US Colonel Douglas Macgregor (combat veteran, former senior advisor to the US Secretary of Defense) laid it out clearly in the 27 October 2026 interview with Glenn Diesen: Ukraine is destroyed, on life support, the facade is collapsing. NATO is a “dead-alive organisation. No fangs. No leadership.” At some point people will point at empty Brussels buildings and ask what they used to be. Europe is lost. The institutions are heading for extinction. Russians have no interest in attacking Europe — that threat does not exist. The war ends when funding stops.
Macgregor’s consistent view (reinforced across multiple recent interviews): Ukrainian losses are catastrophic, the state cannot survive, and Western governments are clinging to a corpse for political reasons while their own countries face economic pressure. Once domestic hardship hits Britain, Germany and France hard, public interest in Ukraine evaporates. Trump is not interested in perpetual funding. The diplomatic boycott is already cracking.
British reality check
£10bn is real taxpayer money. Same week the public faces sky-high energy costs, industrial decline and Net Zero pressure.
Ukraine is not in NATO. Its security is not our security. Endless “as long as it takes” has already cost Britain tens of billions with zero strategic return.
Russia’s goals were limited (neutrality, Donbas autonomy). They achieved the military outcome. Continuing to pour money into a collapsing state only delays the reckoning and drains British capacity.
Action
Stop the blank cheque. Demand an end to open-ended funding. Rebuild British energy, industry, skills and borders first. Follow-back and amplify those calling out the waste. Pressure MPs: Britain first, not forever-war theatre.

Low fertility means fewer workers per pensioner. In the mid-90s Britain had about 4 people of working age for every person 65+.
That 4:1 “support ratio” is the quiet constraint behind pensions, the NHS and the Treasury’s forecasts. With births around 1.4 per woman, that ratio falls on its own — toward roughly 2.4 by 2050 if you do not import people. Two workers per pensioner means higher taxes, later retirement, thinner services, or all three.
For Brits that is the bill.
There is another way to keep 4:1: bring in enough working-age migrants, forever.
The UN’s 2000 replacement-migration worksheet spelled it out. Holding the UK ratio at ~4.1 took on the order of 60 million net migrants by 2050, a country of ~136 million, majority post-1995 arrivals and their children. That scenario is politically unsayable and demographically unstable — migrants age too, so the inflow has to keep rising. So ministers never cite it.
They run a shorter version instead. ONS population in, OBR forecast out. Extra working-age bodies lift headline GDP and the five-year fiscal path. Vacancies in care, NHS and hospitality get visas instead of wages, training or getting natives off inactivity.
Manifestos say “control.” The model still needs the headcount. That is why both parties talk borders and deliver inflows. The dishonesty is the gap.
Reform and Lowe are not running that game. They treat the 4:1 trap as a reason to raise British births and cut the stock — not to substitute the population to protect a ratio.
That is the split.
The first two parties will not tell you the ratio they are managing. They will also not tell you that managing it with migration means you do not keep the same country.
