This is amazing news! I was sad that Farcaster died off after the Neynar acquisition. With a new strong parent, there is a chance of a revival and to build out this vision of a decentralized social network. Excited to see what Balaji and team at Network School can do here!
THE BLOCK: Balaji Srinivasan’s Network School is acquiring Farcaster from Neynar, less than nine months after Neynar took it over.
Rebranded as the Network State Protocol, it will introduce AI moderation and proof of humanity to "build a network of opt-in digital societies which ultimately gets printed out in the physical world."
F1 is way better on TV. Even if you watch it at the circuit, you still end up watching the TV to figure out what is going on.
Getting out of the circuit is a massive pain with the human traffic. And not to mention if it rains, you will be all wet in a poncho unless you are on paddock/grandstand tickets.
The race yesterday was so boring, I shut off my TV halfway through. We need more exciting races like Sepang
Really sad to read about the CryptoBilis incident, an authorised Ledger retailer that ended up selling tampered Ledger devices. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
Imagine buying a hardware wallet to protect your crypto, only to end up losing your funds because the device was compromised 😢
I’ve never been comfortable buying hardware wallets from resellers, even authorised ones. There’s always an additional supply chain risk.
My personal rule is to only buy directly from the manufacturer’s official website to reduce the risk of retailers tampering the devices.
Had a fun time moderating a panel on crypto neobanks at Token2049 this afternoon with @MikeSilagadze @zaheerebtikar and Sean Clark
Crypto conferences are good for catching up with old friends. Data champions of South East Asia - CoinGecko, Etherscan, Nansen
Alright - met @sandeepnailwal at Token2049 and shared my thoughts directly with him. He apologised for his team dancing on other people’s grave. Hopefully more thoughtful tweets in the future
Been speaking to founders over the Token2049 week and we share some war stories of surviving the bear market the past one year. One common theme that came out is about strengthening the core and shutting down non-core projects. At the end of the day, success comes from doing a few things incredibly well.
Sandeep - just ask your Marketing team to delete the tasteless tweet. The fact that it's not deleted means you are condoning such engagement bait. There are plenty of other better ways to get attention and grow Polygon - this is not one of them
I think this didn't land as expected and people conjured up completely different meaning from it. TBH, even When I first saw it my morning in SGP, I was like, "WTF?"
Apparently, Marketing team was making a joke on ourselves because there are some people who always say Polygon is dead, while the fundamentals on Polygon are up and to the right.
There was absolutely no intention to subtweet the Abstract shutdown. I have huge respect for @LucaNetz and his work, and we wouldn't do this because we ourselves sunset our zkEVM, so we know the pain. I hope it clears the air.
All the best to Luca and Pengu team, I continue to cheer for them as ever. Luca is one of the best entreprenuers of the industry.
Been getting questions from people on why there’s fog in Singapore. It’s not fog, it’s haze and the air quality index is actually really bad today. The haze came from forest fires in Indonesia and is a recurrent problem from over 20 years ago. It has been exceptionally bad this year and has been like this for the past few months.
I get the appeal of a crypto conference being paired with F1 but 100% agree this is the worst time to be in Singapore and as much as I hate coming to Singapore this week, have to still come as business needs to carry on with all the meetings taking place
Got a random message yesterday and this certainly put a smile on my face. Shows the dedication of the top notch team that we have here to give the best support that we can to our customers and stakeholders. So happy to see we hired well, trained well and generally having people who care
A few months ago SpaceX opened on Nasdaq at $150. My first thought wasn't the IPO. It was that people onchain had been pricing this thing for months with nothing to price against.
So I asked the team how close they got. The night before it listed, pre-IPO perps had it at $157.40. The open was about $150 or roughly 4.9% off, with no order book, no float, no reference price.
So we pulled the data on the whole tokenized equities market and what surprised me:
- Everyone assumes spot tokenized stocks are where the volume is but it's 50 to 1 the other way. $376.3B perps vs $7.5B spot in July
- Post-listing, perps tracked Nasdaq at 0.996 correlation. The spot wrappers managed 0.95, and gapped to a 13.1% discount during the June rally
- Over 70% of open interest sits on two venues. One dead off-hours window produced a 20% flash crash on SK Hynix perps, about a minute long, hours before Seoul opened down 15%
These are still small market and structurally fragile. Anyone telling you it's ready is selling something but it's putting a price on equities before the exchange opens, and it keeps landing close.
