At a time when some are questioning why we should care about this problem, I recently gave a talk for TEDx for why climate change is a national security concern. youtube.com/watch?v=S8neK0G0…

At FAM University in São Paulo voting stopped at 5 and they shut the gate. Minutes later it reopened. "Due to public transport shut downs in poor neighborhoods across Brazil the voter deadline is extended until 7," I was told. Minutes later they shut the gate again.+

Reports on Brazilian TV of terrible chaos. Polling stations that had already closed their doors, reopening. Poll clerks completely confused. What a nightmare. Hard to say what the consequences might be, tonight and in the weeks and months ahead.

What a mess. Polling has supposedly closed in Brazil - and no word from Brazil's electoral authorities about whether voting hours will be extended because of apparent sabotage of public transport in at least 10 states

🚨Lula campaign has requested that Electoral Court extend voting hours in Salvador and São Paulo due to the intentional limitation of public transport by Bolsonarista local authorities. Other cities may follow.🚨

Separately, it's reported São Paulo is operating just 60% of its required bus fleet during Brazil's presidential runoff, despite a court order mandating full weekday service. Cuts are hitting lower-income neighbourhoods hardest, disrupting voters from reaching polling stations.
A Brazilian electoral court ordered the arrest of Salvador transport chief Pablo Souza for obstructing voting by keeping 75 buses off the streets during the presidential runoff, potentially preventing thousands of voters from reaching polling stations.

Amid claims of a deliberate pro-Bolsonaro attempt to suppress the vote in numerous parts of Brazil by sabotaging public transport, Lula warns of "abominable ... banditry" and urges people to keep trying to vote. Calls for voting to be extended by 2 hours until 7pm.

Widespread voter suppression is reportedly being carried out by local government officials aligned with Flávio Bolsonaro. They're breaking the law by keeping public buses in the garages to prevent poor and working classes Brazilians from voting. This is very serious.
Lula tells reporters he has never before complained about elections he has been involved in, irrespective of whether he had won or lost. "But this time something abominable is happening."

Dare to dream fellow Texans.
Texas was built by hope. By people who had no business believing — but believed anyway. To every Texan who’s ever wondered if anyone in power is paying attention: We are taking our state back. Because a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.

It’s been clear for a long time that Bolsonarism still has a hold in Brazil even with elder Bolsonaro imprisoned. Important warning from @jamesnorth7: On October 25, Brazilians will vote in the second round of their presidential elections. The matter might not be all that suspenseful. The far right-wing candidate, Flávio Bolsonaro, is widely favored to defeat the incumbent, President Lula da Silva, especially after Bolsonaro’s unexpectedly strong showing in the first round, which found both him and the members of his far-right movement broadly in the ascendance. His victory will be a catastrophe for many reasons, but there’s one looming disaster that will extend far beyond Brazil’s borders: The fate of the Amazon rainforest, the world’s largest, hangs in the balance.
#Brazil: Once you have seen the awful consequences of rainforest destruction, you will never forget it. And the Brazilian far-right plans to start burning again. My article @newrepublic. @Revkin @amazonwatch @apagliar newrepublic.com/article/2162…

Probably Sunday's best moment in Texas politics: @CurrentRevolt loses it over how shoddy the work was by the MAGA influencers trying to convince you that Rep Talarico was in a mental hospital: "This story sucks, man...this is shit work, bro... I'm actually upset"

Worth correcting the record on 4 misconceptions in this article: - BAAJA creates MORE exemptions for clean energy than fossil and the certainty provisions WOULD NOT lock in fossil or allow offshore wind style buy-outs. 🧵 (1/12) xitter.cf/jaeporeon/status/21096…
