Leadership. This is awesome.
The CEO of Canada’s sixth-largest bank wants Ottawa to throw out the entire tax code and write a new one within a year. Laurent Ferreira says the goal should be making Canada the “simplest, most efficient and most competitive tax jurisdiction of all developed countries.” 🧵👇 (1/8)

#yyc and it’s water pipes would like for you to shut the fuck up you clown
The phrase "sixteen units where one house used to be" is the definition of how we solve the housing crisis. It is, quite literally, the manner in which someone who currently cannot afford housing will be able to, in the future, afford housing.

Meanwhile I’m busy watching my projected utility bills double in 5-years, a 50% property tax increase over the next 5 years, no answers for where 15 years of collected maintenance capital for water utilities disappeared to inside #yyc admin…
Yesterday the Province directed Calgary and Edmonton on how our neighbourhoods should grow. I want to be clear: my concern is not about rezoning. That's gone. My concern is a pattern of Provincial interference in local decisions, often while that work is still underway 1/ #yyc

Departing CAO Duckworth says Calgary has “among the lowest per capita operating costs among large Canadian cities.” Calgary’s own numbers show Calgary costs MORE per resident than Edmonton and Winnipeg. 📍 Winnipeg $2,463 📍 Edmonton $3,209 📍 Calgary $3,302 /2

Non-zero chance the giant-brains trying to manipulate #yyc #yyccc into the 15% number are actually playing ham-fist politics to force #ableg to take all the blame for the eventual increase. We are governed by weevils using the stupidest revenue models ever invented.

How about a 15% tax cut instead?
City Council is looking at approving the LARGEST property tax hikes in decades: 15% in 2027, 10% in 2028, 7.6% in 2029 and 6% in 2030. This is simply UNACCEPTABLE. There needs to be a huge shift in priorities. Focus on infrastructure, public safety, and core city services. We need to make cuts in all areas that are not core responsibilities of municipalities. I will be advocating for and proposing spending cuts as we get closer to the budget deliberations. Many members of council ran on fiscal responsibility, it's time to keep our commitment to Calgarians and focus Calgarians tax dollars on needs, not wants.

No one will ever be able to make a joke this good about natural gas because there has never been a gasco that doesn’t like drilling more than beeathing
We had a good thing, you stupid son of a bitch. We had the mortgage. We had the score. We had the one number every lender in America was too scared to close a loan without. Thirty years. Thirty years, nobody could touch you. You could’ve shut your mouth, raised prices bit by bit, and made as much money as anyone ever needed. It was perfect. But no — you had to jack it 17x in five years. You and your pride and your earnings calls. You just had to squeeze every drop. You just had to be the man. If you'd known your place and let the pennies roll in, we'd all be fine right now. Instead, VantageScore's through the door, the FHFA's circling, and the whole industry's finally asking why they ever needed you at all. $FICO

“You’ve got to be very careful as a military leader about resigning. You can fall on your sword, but generally it hurts and you can only do it once.”—Former defence chief Wayne Eyre Eyre almost quit after Chrystia Freeland publicly threw him under the bus. He stayed because resignation would have been a political act that damaged the institution more than the politicians who starved it of funds and delayed decisions “at the speed of war” The memoir is blunt: Trudeau's ideological leadership collided with reality, speeches about Ukraine sat next to budget cuts, and Canada’s top soldier was left holding a hollowed-out force that left Canada undefended @wd_eyre
"Canada's former top military commander considered resigning "several times" during his tenure in battles with the former Trudeau government over the sexual misconduct scandal, and the lack of commitment towards defence spending. Retired general Wayne Eyre's new memoir, Into the Breach: A Soldier's Journey, also peels back the curtain on the internal debate that took place over how to end the convoy occupation of downtown Ottawa in early 2022." @wd_eyre

Bookmark this, in 18 months it’ll be approved regardless, just like the old Viscount site where they want to land 10,000+ people and there isn’t even a controlled intersection within several blocks of narrow side streets surrounding it. #yyccc

Replying to @JakeLandauTO
No Jake, grain, pulse and oilseed farmers - those that ship on rail and export through ports - are not major users of TFWs. Agricultural TFWs are overwhelmingly concentrated in greenhouse, fruit and vegetables segments. Saskatchewan has about 1% of agricultural TFWs nationally.

Calling Carney Brookfield’s “gretzky” is an immediate tell that you are a pure shitposting troll account with no actual experience managing money
Sounds like something you read before the trap door falls out. The NCP remain in the color me skeptical camp on $bn $bam. Losing their Gretzky, Mark Carney, to save Trudeau's Liberals from decimation seems like the death kneel for its outperformance.

Over/under on the USA using their new Greenland pact to charge Canada and Europe a “trans-atlantic security fee” the minute Canada signs on to a formal role (associate whatever) with the EU. I’ll take before the mid-terms for DT floating it. #cdnpoli #straitofGreenMuz/HorLand

ALL-TIME HIGH DIESEL CRACK The US diesel crack spread (i.e., refining margin) is now sitting above $111/bbl (vs Brent), the highest level on record. The industrial workhorse fuel is currently trading at roughly $220/bbl, more than double the price of prompt crude futures.

Every young, ambitious person in the country should be making a beeline for the prairies. Alberta/Sask will post 5% annual GDP growth for the next decade. Fortunes will be made... AND they have relatively affordable housing

It should not be a shock, or be a laudable announcement, that a very large bank will grow it’s loan book if there is an increase in high enough quality credit opportunities to deploy against. Wow, look at that Bank promising to Bank and do bank stuff just like a normal Bank!
