Franchising ruined eSports
The esports ecosystem is tougher than most people realise, even at the highest level.
The recent news surrounding ENCE, Evil Geniuses, Complexity and others highlights just how difficult it is to build a sustainable esports organisation.
These are established brands with international success, major championships and years of history. Yet even they have struggled to survive.
Now imagine the challenges here in Oceania.
Smaller audiences, fewer sponsors, limited commercial opportunities and enormous travel costs make an already difficult industry even harder.
Everyone wants more. Bigger salaries, better opportunities, greater investment. And there’s nothing wrong with ambition.
But the expectations don’t always match the effort required to build something sustainable.
Too often, players and creators expect organisations to operate like FaZe or OpTic without understanding the difference in resources, market size and commercial value.
There’s also a misconception that securing a sponsor means an organisation is suddenly making money. In reality, that funding often goes straight back into travel, production, player support, staffing and operational costs.
Esports isn’t just about competing anymore.
Content, community engagement, professionalism, sponsor deliverables and brand loyalty are what help create commercial value.
It needs to be a two-way relationship. Players and creators deserve fair compensation, but organisations also need people willing to contribute to the brand’s growth, not just benefit from it.
At The Chiefs, we’re doubling down on our efforts to demonstrate the genuine value of esports through better content, storytelling, partnerships and community engagement, and we are lucky to have such great creators, staff and players who understand the bigger picture and are genuinely working with us to build something great.
We believe in this industry and what it can become, especially in OCE.
But passion alone doesn’t pay the bills, and sponsorship doesn’t automatically equal profit.
If we want esports to grow, we need to stop thinking about what we can take from the ecosystem and start thinking about what we can contribute to building it.
Because without sustainable organisations, the opportunities everyone wants simply won’t exist.

Open brackets are so back
If you have to turn your replies off you know you’re in the wrong.
Fuck you fat bald chud
I’ll be stepping away from the CDL for the foreseeable future.
As some of you know, I was very close to my casting partner Joe and his family. Maurisa was one of my best friends. We remained friends, after they divorced, and along the way it became more than that and we started dating.
I understand how unconventional/taboo it is. It’s truly not something I ever foresaw happening.
I hope that one day I’ll be back working on the CDL. If not, it was a hell of a ride, and I appreciate the love over the years. Please continue to show support to Joe, the CDL, and its talent!
Coming up on 10 years of this game being dog shit
No org has won Champs more than once or B2B in CoD history
Does that change this year? 😳

This is my formal notice that I am officially stepping away from Delco Gaming. As something that started in Black Ops 2 ranked play and 360icons tournaments because we needed a team name, turned in to so much more than I ever could’ve asked for. Unfortunately my passion for COD has been killed by the CDL like many others, nor does it make sense to fund an amateur team as organizations have zero upside.
It’s been a long fun run, and amazing cool people along the way. I am not going anywhere but Delco Gaming as a company, project and team will be closed indefinitely until farther notice.
