The Trump administration is propping up 90 coal plants nationwide, and it’s saddling us all with higher electricity bills, poorer health, and worsening climate change, says @EnvDefenseFund.

Like data centers, other loads can also theoretically reduce bills by spreading fixed costs over more kWh of usage. In the case of heat pumps, they would reduce pollution too

@RockyMtnInst says these states could bring more heat pumps online in winter without the need for expensive grid upgrades — and that the all-electric appliances could even lower residential power prices.

If you were trying to destroy the United States, this is a great step.

Google has specifically prevented its AI tool from telling users who won the 2020 presidential election, even though it happily tells us that Trump won in 2016 and 2024. This sort of political intervention into LLM responses is deeply problematic. (h/t to Charles Mann)

This is pretty amazing. I laughed because she gave tax breaks to the rich and told us it was for the middle class. She has been in office for 14 years and now she has a secret plan to lower costs. Ann Wagner is a liar and a coward. She won't debate or hold a town hall because she is afraid of real questions. Instead she edits 13 second clips to make herself look good. 6 days for change. @WellmanForMO

Abdul El-Sayed: “We are being actively bullied by the dumbest people in the room. Donald Trump is an idiot. He has one genius which is getting attention. Because his dad never gave him enough, because he was a nepo baby, he craved attention and used the bullying tactics to get it. But the man is an idiot. Just a fool”

When politicians convince you that a tiny minority is a greater threat than poverty, homelessness, and unaffordable healthcare, you’re not witnessing leadership. You’re witnessing manipulation.

"Renewables are too expensive!" A common argument.
It's stuck in 2010, and the author doesn't know it.
It's OK to respond, "You were right, prices were too high twenty years ago, but things have gotten much better. Just like TV's!"

If anything will put you off crappy processed food, it's @TipOfTheBanana
Reese's Pieces have no chocolate in them. The peanuts had their oil pressed out and a cheaper fat put back in.
Sugar is first, then partially defatted peanuts, then hydrogenated palm kernel and soybean oil, then corn syrup solids. Everything after that is 2% or less, and it's the dyes, the glaze, some vanillin and a little milk. There's no cocoa anywhere.
Partially defatted just means the peanuts went through a press. The peanut oil comes out one side and gets sold as peanut oil. What's left is a dry peanut flour, and that's what the center is made from, because flour holds a shape in a panning drum and doesn't go rancid. Then they put fat back in, and the fat they picked is hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which is solid at room temperature and costs less than peanut oil. You can see the swap on the panel. 38 pieces have 6 g of fat and all 6 are saturated. Peanut oil is mostly unsaturated, so that number isn't the peanut.
The shell is sugar with 4 dyes and a coat of shellac.
