Democracy is on the line with every election, and yesterday’s historic turnout showed that Americans are ready to fight for their right to vote. I’ve always been a tech geek and a believer in technology’s power to put information in people’s hands and improve our lives. That includes artificial intelligence. I strongly believe in learning how to harness AI’s potential, but doing so responsibly. That’s why our administration released the New York City Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, a major step toward cementing NYC’s position as a leader in the responsible use of innovative AI technology. But as someone who believes in technology’s potential, I was disappointed by several reports this week examining how chatbots provided voters with inaccurate information about the midterm elections. According to NPR, “Notably, the accuracy of the responses depended more on the chatbot than the questions posed.” In other words, this wasn’t simply a matter of users asking the wrong questions. It was a failure of the technology itself. The report found that Claude and Copilot accounted for three-quarters of clear errors, with Claude providing incorrect or outdated voting information one in three times, Copilot one in four, and ChatGPT one in 10. The Washington Post also reported that chatbots generated voter guides containing fabricated races and incorrectly identified candidates. Another report found that a reporter testing Claude received an 11-page report on how to manipulate an election. Anthropic’s own online policy states: “We have a responsibility to make sure the answers they get are accurate and balanced, and that Claude isn't used to undermine the democratic process.” I wholeheartedly agree. If AI is going to play an increasingly important role in how Americans access information, we have a responsibility to ensure that information is accurate, particularly when it comes to our elections. I believe in the promise of AI. But democracy is too important to get wrong. npr.org/2026/11/02/nx-s1-602…

The 7th of October 2023 was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. In Kfar Aza, the grief was overwhelming. As mayor of the largest Jewish community outside Israel, I felt a duty to see it myself. Denying or distorting that day is evil.

“We are not all right.” I said those words in the days after October 7, 2023. Three years later, we are STILL not all right. We remember the children, parents and grandparents murdered by Hamas. The young people who went to a music festival and never came home. The families whose pain does not end when the anniversary passes. And we are not all right when antisemitism spreads like wildfire, too often fueled or excused by government officials who have a responsibility to confront it. We are not all right when Jewish families live in fear and those entrusted to protect them look the other way. It is more important than ever to stand up, speak out and fight this hatred. Silence cannot be our answer. To my Jewish brothers and sisters: Your fight is my fight. I am your brother. I stood beside you then. I stand beside you now. And I always will. May the memories of those we lost be a blessing.

The relentless demonization of Israel and Israelis has consequences. It feeds a world where hatred is taught, violence is excused, and Jewish men, women and children are treated as legitimate targets. So many innocent people boarded that FlyDubai flight today expecting to make it home. Instead, they came terrifyingly close to never seeing their loved ones again. Think about the terror they endured. Think about how many families came so close to receiving the worst phone call of their lives. Hateful words fuel hateful actions. Leaders and people of good conscience must find the courage to speak up and fight back against antisemitism. Enough of this madness dressed up as morality. Innocent lives are at stake.

Details are still emerging, but according to reports, incredibly brave Israeli passengers aboard today’s Flydubai flight overpowered an attacker, allowing a flight crew to land the plane safely. Because they stepped up, so many people will return home to their families. A terrible tragedy was averted. Twenty-five years after 9/11, the threat of terrorism remains real. We must never become complacent. The price is paid in human lives.

Mamdani’s "first-ever" antisemitism strategy is mostly just the Adams plan that he deleted on Day 1 of his administration, but with every page that touches Israel torn out. That is the whole review, the rest is commentary. But now that you are here, let me explain:

To my Jewish brothers and sisters in New York City and around the world, I wish you a meaningful Yom Kippur and an easy fast. This sacred day reminds us to look within, seek forgiveness, and find the strength to do better and be better. May your prayers bring comfort and renewed hope, and may your families be blessed with health and happiness in the year ahead. Our Jewish community is part of the heart and soul of this city. I will always stand with you. G’mar Chatimah Tovah. May you be sealed in the Book of Life.

Shana Tova to my Jewish brothers and sisters in New York City and around the world! As you gather with your loved ones to welcome the new year, I wish you good health, happiness and abundant blessings. I’m grateful for the friendship and love you’ve shown me over the years. And let me be clear: I will always stand with you against antisemitism. No one should be afraid to wear a kippah, enter a synagogue or walk our streets proudly as a Jew. When our Jewish community is threatened, we all have a responsibility to speak up and stand against that hate. You can always count on my voice. May your homes be filled with love, your families with joy and the year ahead with sweetness and hope. שנה טובה ומתוקה

Twenty-five years later, I still think about the people who left home on September 11 expecting to see their families again. One more hug. One more dinner together. One more chance to say “I love you.” Cowardly terrorists stole all of that in an act of pure evil. They murdered innocent people and left families with a pain that no anniversary can erase. As a New Yorker and a former NYPD officer, this will always be personal to me. I think about our firefighters and police officers who rushed into danger to save people they had never met. They had children to raise. Parents to care for. Plans for tomorrow. They gave their lives so others could get home to the people they loved. They deserved to come home, too. To the families who lost someone that day, and those who have since lost loved ones to 9/11-related illnesses: I know these are people you miss every single day. A name read aloud can never replace a voice you long to hear again. Your loved ones will always be part of New York. We will honor their lives, stand beside their families, and never, ever forget.

After 22 years in the NYPD, I thought I could spot a setup. But Mitch Modell, John Catsimatidis, and Todd Shapiro got me. I walked into a meeting and straight into a surprise birthday cake. Three real New Yorkers, and three very smooth operators!

I just watched Big Chicken, a powerful documentary that shines a light on an issue we should all know more about and the serious social and health impacts that come with it. Eye-opening, informative, and definitely worth your time. I highly recommend watching it.

Antisemitic rhetoric, when left unchecked, leads to antisemitic violence. The rise in attacks against Jews in New York City is deeply disturbing. It is time for New Yorkers to stand together and declare with one voice: antisemitism will not be tolerated in our city. And it is incumbent upon every leader in this city to stop using rhetoric that fuels hatred against our Jewish community. When leaders normalize hate with their words, we should not be surprised when others act on them.

Political violence turns into physical violence. And once we start treating violence as an acceptable response to our disagreements or grievances, we all lose. Violence is never the answer. Not in our politics, not in our streets, not anywhere. My thoughts remain with Brian Thompson’s family and loved ones. They suffered an unimaginable loss, and they should never be forgotten amid the headlines and politics surrounding this case.
