We are excited to convene with our partners as we celebrate a decade of inclusive financial sector development.
FSD Uganda has been a leading 'think and do tank' in building a responsive financial sector that meets the needs of the real economy.
This great milestone embodies a deeper, more inclusive and sustainable financial market in Uganda.
Saving is often presented as a matter of discipline.
For many households, competing expenses leave little money to put aside.
Our latest #FinancialInclusionNugget explores why financial education and savings products must reflect how people actually earn, spend and save.
#WorldSavingsDay
81% of Ugandans are financially included. Yet only 43% are saving.
What do these figures tell us about how people use financial services and whether those services meet their needs?
A few insights from FSD Uganda CEO @jzkwebiiha Kwebiiha Jr.
Knowing the importance of saving doesn't mean someone can afford to save.
And understanding credit doesn't mean the available loans suit their circumstances.
Financial education must reflect these realities. So must the products financial institutions offer.
As Uganda implements the new strategy, financial institutions and organisations delivering financial education should ask:
Are people applying what they learn? Are financial products meeting their needs?
The answers should shape programme design and how success is measured.

Can efforts to make financial services safer also make them harder to access?
They can, if compliance requirements don't reflect the risks institutions actually face.
For Uganda's growing digital financial sector, getting this balance right matters.

Yesterday, FSD Uganda and @ThefiaU launched AML/CFT/CPF Guidelines and Compliance Assessment Toolkits for Tier IV financial institutions and FinTechs.
The tools help institutions assess their exposure to financial crime, review existing controls and identify gaps that need attention.
The next test is whether institutions put the guidance into practice.
As FSD Uganda CEO @jzkwebiiha emphasised, proportionality isn't about lowering standards. It's about matching the response to the risk.
Financial integrity and financial inclusion should reinforce each other.

Digital finance is expanding in Uganda, but what happens to financial inclusion when people lose trust in the systems they use?
During yesterday's X Space on Building Digital Trust, FSD Uganda CEO @jzkwebiiha argued that fraud prevention must be a leadership responsibility, not just a technical issue.
A few points from the discussion...
“It’s important for us to look at redress as preventive, not something that we are doing after the fact.”
For customers, trust also depends on what happens when something goes wrong. Can they report fraud easily? Will anyone respond? How quickly can they expect a resolution?
Effective redress helps protect confidence in digital finance.
But how prepared are financial institutions to prevent and respond to fraud?
FSD Uganda's 2024 Cyber and Fraud Risk Landscape Assessment identified just 264 qualified cybersecurity and fraud professionals across Uganda's commercial financial institutions, less than 10% of estimated need.
The findings point to a capacity gap that institutions must address as digital finance expands.
As more Ugandans use digital services, what will it take to build and sustain their trust?
Our CEO, @jzkwebiiha joins a discussion on leadership, resilience and confidence in Uganda's digital economy.

It's been valuable working together to understand what drives the adoption of digital financial services among farmers.
These experiences continue to shape how we think about making digital finance work for underserved communities.
Thank you for sharing!
Great article in @DailyMonitor on digital finance, penned by Janani Luwum at @fsduganda.
It summarises a lot of the learnings we've had working with FSDU over the years to increase financial inclusion in agri.
