“their service just can’t compete with a terrestrial network” when someone who never built anything tries to call out someone who is building, i get so incredibly bearish it pattern matches so hard onto the “iphone is an overly expensive gimmick” executives
Verizon's CEO said today that SpaceX will need at least 4-6 years and $300B-$500B to fully build out its @Starlink Mobile U.S. carrier network: "Their service just can't compete with a terrestrial network. In suburban and urban areas, where 98% of our revenues are, we're somewhere between 100x–1,000x more efficient than they are. We know exactly what they're going to do. We know who they're talking to on towers. There's no magic wand. There's no secret sauce. There's no shortcut. They're going to look at 65,000–80,000 macro sites. They're going to need backhaul, RAN, and a tremendous amount of spectrum. It's going to take a minimum of four to six years to fully build that out. It's going to cost hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars, I assume somewhere between $300 billion and $500 billion. Then they need to build retail, customer service, back office systems, et cetera. All of that gets them basically the same network and same capabilities and same cost structure as what we have today. Then sometime over the next four to six years, they have the possibility of becoming the sixth, not the fourth, the sixth competitor in the market. You can be sure over these next three to five years or six years, we are not going to be standing still. Four to five years from now, we will be two to three generations better than where we are today. We will have high-speed broadband gig-plus coverage across the country with our millimeter wave. We are ahead of most people and already experimenting with what 6G applications will look like." (via Verizon's Q3 earnings call earlier this morning)

ai allows you to map out the full company and restructure it bottoms up historically, every company accumulates hard to reverse damage every year from adding more people, and complexity is only ever increasing there will be double digit trillions of dollars freed up from this

you will be able to follow a task from input to output, through every team member. you'll see every one of the 16 steps, 30 back and forths, 4 separate tickets, and 120 messages per task

ouf terra not scoring so well on real big company tasks.. model size really matters when the problem space is big, like open ended instructions for solving a real enterprise task. knowing where to look and finding all the right information is hard
I ran them @gabriel1 Terra 6.1 results from our enterprise benchmark 👇

obviously all enterprises will all pay $10m+ per year for ai, it's INTELLIGENCE ON A TAP, the most sought after resource and only 250 companies pay $10m right now??? how people are bearish on ai right now, can someone explain. i dont care what finance people in NY says
According to their S-1: ~250 customers pay Anthropic >$10M per year 1900 customers pay >$1M/yr 11,900 customers pay >$100k/yr

AHHHH YES I LOVE YOU OPENAI QUICK @emilahlback run the benchmarks on real enterprise tasks!!
Replying to @OpenAI
GPT-6.1 Terra substantially outperforms GPT-5.6 Terra on Agents’ Last Exam, a test of how well agents use software at work. It even matches GPT-6 Astra at one-tenth the price per token and finishes tasks over 3× faster on average than both Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.

it blows my mind how big part of the economy is: - "there was no software for this part so we patched it with more people" - "our customer doesn't know what to do because our software is bad so we patched it by hiring more people" it's probably like 10-40% of white collar?

it makes sense, there are thousands of workflows like this at every company, each workflow takes hours to understand, and you cant put traditional engineering resources on it

one main thing stopping hackers is that it's easier to make money from being a good guy than a bad guy so most hackers are idiots but now it's both 100x more profitable AND easier to hack so this might stop being true

you don't have to hide that you want to win everyone here already wants to win. it requires huge effort to work in sf or have a big following the decision is between lying that you don't care, or being honest and let people make informed decisions. choose honesty rant:

the reason i choose the honesty game is because the "i care about status but pretend not to care" game is highly complex, competitive, and hard to know what to hillclimb. mostly genetics so i invented my own game, honesty. never compete or you will not win

if you talk to a "high status but pretends not to care", you can point out the psychology behind an action for status such as the thread above and they just turn quiet. it's very interesting. never compete
