What 236,000 People Taught Us We went to Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse). And as we do at every conference, we arrived with a plan, after all there were 236,000 people. What we didn't do though, was focus on the plan so much that we missed out on opportunities right in front of us. It doesn't matter if you call it good luck, serendipity, or even fate but unplanned moments turned out to be the most valuable. What made those conversations work wasn't a carefully rehearsed pitch. It was being curious, asking questions, listening, and being open to possibilities we hadn't considered. Even when being busy and productive feels like the most important thing to focus on, take some time to reflect and connect. This down time gives your brain a chance to process everything you've been working on. Spending time with people outside your field can also give you a fresh perspective on your work and spark ideas you might never have found on your own.
