Momentous evening for the Party & me, as the Chelsea & Fulham Conservatives select a new parliamentary candidate. It’s been me since October 2002, a 1/4 century! Stopping to visit my late brother Andy, whose (almost) last act was to vote for me 24 years ago. He’d be proud.

It’s actually in the bilateral 🇬🇧 🇩🇪 Kensington Treaty, which was signed by the U.K. when you were an MP - not me. Maybe the LibDems should do their job of scrutinising the government a little more diligently?
If only someone had warned the Conservatives that this might happen! And the weird thing is that they’re now doubling down by: - telling us nothing can be done about it AND - giving us Brexit 2.0 by leaving the ECHR The Tories say they’ve changed, but they’ve learned nothing.

Totally agree with @NJ_Timothy
Our streets increasingly smell of cannabis. People should not have to put up with it in public spaces. We must not accept it as normal.

Tomorrow in Berlin, Friedrich Merz opens the inaugural “Invest in Germany Conference” Having been UK Investment Minister and run these events, my top tip is that people don’t invest in countries they can’t get into, or out of. My pictures in 2026 from Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin

Munich @MUC airport right now. This is the queue to *leave* the country - ridiculous! Despite Germany’s promise in the Kensington Treaty for eGate access for Brits from August 2025. It was easier to get into the GDR!

I just had this flash up in my iPhone photos. The late Councillor Andy Brown over the years. How we miss him in Fulham and so sad that we suddenly lost him this year.

Wait a moment - is the proposal that the UK be included in the EU’s “Made in Europe” scheme *only* for the car industry? It should be for *all* procurement and supply chains. It’s mutually beneficial, notably in defence, not an EU “concession” anyway.
NEW: France has dropped its opposition to the UK being included in the EU’s “Made in Europe” legislation as long as the British government aligns with the bloc’s position over tariffs on Chinese EVs. In a breakthrough for Andy Burnham, Paris on Thursday came round to backing Germany, which has always supported the UK’s calls to be designated European for the purposes of the Industrial Accelerator Act. The legislation, which is in its draft stage, is designed to protect domestic manufacturing from cheap Chinese competition. According to a joint Franco-German paper seen by the Guardian, the two countries are now proposing that for the car industry specifically the UK could be included in the "Made in Europe" scheme. @lisaocarroll reports theguardian.com/world/2026/o…

It was tempting to think it was the impenetrable (at least for Brits) German eGates that got him, but it was actually customs.

An honour to be at @CZinLondon Embassy for Czech National Day. And to hear from Rolls Royce SMR the latest on their JV with CEZ to build Small Modular Reactors. A deal which I helped broker from 2021 with then (as now) Czech Energy Minister @KarelHavlicek_ 🇬🇧 🇨🇿 #Spolupráce

Am so much looking forward to celebrating Czech National Day at the @CZinLondon embassy today. Terrific window displays marking what would have been the 90th birthday of Václav Havel and him meeting the late HM the Queen.

Five years ago today, Sir David Amess was murdered while doing what he had done for almost 40 years: serving the people who elected him. He never stopped showing up for them. On the day his life was taken, he was there once again, listening and helping, just as he always had. Today we remember a much-loved colleague and friend. Above all, our thoughts are with his wife and children, who carry his loss every day.
