Hot take: You don’t need a better product. You need a bigger idea. Features get copied fast. But people remember the expert who changed how they see the world. Start there.

Your daily step count and resting heart rate may offer clues to how fast you age. People who averaged fewer than 5,000 steps a day were more likely to show a pace of aging above 1.2 biological years per calendar year. That’s more than 14 months of biological aging in 12 months. People with a resting heart rate above 80 beats per minute were also more likely to show accelerated biological aging. On the other hand, each additional 3,000 daily steps and a resting heart rate 10 beats per minutes lower were associated with an estimated 11 fewer days of biological aging per year. When I spoke with Dr. Steve Horvath (@prof_horvath), we discussed how researchers use DunedinPACE to test whether lifestyle changes can slow the pace of aging. What stands out in this study is that two numbers you can check on your wrist tracked with signs of aging that researchers could detect in your DNA!

Just to clarify: this isn’t just the first time since WW2 that all incumbent parties in developed countries lost vote share. It’s the first time since this data was first recorded in 1905. Essentially the first time in the history of democracy (universal suffrage began in 1894).

Apparently some Dems are concluding from this that they were powerless to avoid a heavy defeat, so I will take this opportunity to plug my column from last month warning that progressives’ leftward shift on social issues was alienating Hispanic voters ft.com/content/84b81600-d107…

“New York authorities, under their terrible Governor, put more effort into finding an[d] eliminating a squirrel, **who was innocent by all accounts**…” I don’t want to take anything away from the Peanut Tragedy but this line had me howling. lmao

Imagine being Sundar Pichai now: - you had the largest continually updated data set of any company to train AI on (the Google Index) - you invented the underlying technology of LLMs like ChatGPT in 2017 called Transfomers - you had complete search dominance: all you had to add was AI and you'd own the market And yet: - you managed to complete fumble your massive head start and was late to everything - you made your APIs so hard to use nobody seriously integrated it into their apps and people instead went Anthropic and OpenAI - you now see your search dominance quickly slipping away to Perplexity and yesterday's launched ChatGPT Search This will be a business case studied in universities for decades

As if it wasn’t clear already VW illustrates the giant, ticking time-bomb at the heart of Europe’s economic model. The European economy is based on two things, industrial production and selling the past.
