The next featured essay in our open access special issue (horrorhomeroom.com/special-i…) on dollhouses is Sarah Fevri's essay on how the dollhouse helps to negotiate (traumatic) girlhood in HBO's miniseries adaptation of Gillian Flynn's SHARP OBJECTS. #dolls #dollhouses #horror #GillianFlynn #SharpObjects horrorhomeroom.com/beneath-t…

We're currently recording and releasing a series of podcasts about Agatha Christie's mysteries (& the ways they veer into gothic and horror) - but here's something from 10 years ago about the Agatha Christie revival (definitely still ongoing) - and what might explain it. I use the brilliant 2015 BBC adaptation of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE to illustrate what appealed then - and still appeals - about Christie's work. #AgathaChristie horrorhomeroom.com/and-then-…

"They should have gone to Vegas" October 2026 is the 10 year anniversary of The Ritual film shoot. This month, one decade ago, I had my set visit in the Carpathians, Transylvania, Romania. A time of magical transformation. Halloween is when I re-watch the film & reminisce.

It's the 30th anniversary of SCREAM this year, and so we're featuring coverage of the franchise. Here, Jaymen Neff-Strickland and Shane H. Weathers provide a retrospective of SCREAM 3 (2000), offering an interesting take on what the film does well - and not so well #Scream #Scream3 horrorhomeroom.com/scream-3-…

It's great indeed. I enjoyed Lorcan Finnegan's other movies as well: Vivarium and The Surfer! Deeply recommended.
I was at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival last week, seeing some great films & writing review. In part because of that, I'm currently re-watching a film I watched and reviewed at the very first Brooklyn Horror Film Festival in 2016 (how can it have been that long ago??) It's really a wonderful film, not talked about as much as it should be: Lorcan Finnegan's WITHOUT NAME. And it's now, I just found out, streaming on @Shudder I highly recommend it! horrorhomeroom.com/without-n…

An isolated Alaskan hometown. A murdered childhood friend. Birds turning on the people below. HBO’s ‘THE BIRDS’ gives Sarah Snook a new character and a murder mystery to unravel.
Sarah Snook will face ‘THE BIRDS’ in a new limited series that has landed at HBO. The present-day reimagining moves the terror to an isolated Alaskan town, with a murder mystery at its center. Details: [dreadcentral.com/news/595501…]

Our special issue on dolls and their houses (horrorhomeroom.com/special-i…) is chock full of amazing essays. In this featured essay, Alice Sage discusses a fascinating early 1980s British TV series TOTTIE, which she reads as an instance of folk gothic. "Made by the legendary Smallfilms production duo Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin (best known for The Clangers, 1969 and Bagpuss, 1974), this stop-motion adaptation of Rumer Godden’s 1947 children’s book has become a cult classic with ‘sinister credentials’ (Ricketts)." #Tottie #dolls #dollhouses #horror horrorhomeroom.com/tottie-a-…

Another review from the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival - and this was my favorite of a lot of great films. It's Ryan Glover's SPLIT ROCK - a geological horror that evokes Mark Jenkins' Enys Men and the 1970s TV series Children of the Stones. So, how can you not like it?? It's coming to @Shudder on December 25. #SplitRock #horror horrorhomeroom.com/brooklyn-…

We are sad to learn that actor Tom Skerritt has passed away at 93. The Emmy-winning actor made his mark on the horror genre as Dallas in the original ALIEN back in 1979, and he also starred in The Dead Zone, Poltergeist III, and 2008's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Rest in Peace.

Czech horror doesn't get nearly enough attention. Wolf's Hole is a slow-burn Cold War nightmare that uses an isolated ski resort to devastating effect, and the dread it builds is completely relentless
