I’ve just started making appointments with friends in different time zones based on the common reference of “New York time.” (I suppose Greenwich would work too, but more things in our lives revolve around North American time).
Hey @Google, why does your search engine defaulting to Daylight savings time when we’re not doing that in Alberta and B.C. anymore?

Another rather unusual twist w/ the upcoming time zone changes: The small neighbouring communities of Stewart, BC & Hyder, AK will find themselves separated by a 2-hr time difference, despite being inextricably linked by geography, daily life & their shared border. #NewTimeZones

Thank you for sharing something so deeply personal, Lisa. This is what troubles me most about advance MAiD requests. What happens when the person you once were would have chosen death, but the person you’ve become still finds joy in living? Whose wishes should prevail? I don’t think we’ve come close to answering that.

I'm still puzzling over the Somerset Maugham allusion. Starting a post with a paraphrase of the opening line of "Of Human Bondage" is an odd choice. Though Maugham's title, which he borrowed from a chapter by Spinoza on the dominance of rationality by emotion, may have something to do with "a day to feel all the feelings."

I’ve said before that the persistent defence from sociologists that plagiarism is normal, actually, does not redound entirely to their credit.
“Happens all the time, as we've been told by academics in this field, especially in the social sciences, which rely on large datasets.” Probably true. Happens all the time is some admission, and its acceptance is definitely part of the problem. In fact, it might be the problem.

Watch King Charles at Commonwealth War Graves, in Guyana, meeting veteran Donald Grant, 99, who served in WWII with the RAF, and who says: “Is this the hand of the King? Is this the hand of the King? I can’t say much, but it’s all in my heart.”

Any foreign influence registry should require disclosure of meetings and financial relationships between foreign regimes and their state-controlled entities and Canadian FNs leadership. PRC top of list.
"China has long recognized that Indigenous governments exercise consequential authority over Canadian territory and natural resources. And according to a previously classified intelligence review obtained exclusively by The Bureau, Chinese officials have sought to exploit that authority through deceptive diplomatic outreach."

My favourite theme in @TheRestHistory is how the British always seemed to be supremely uninterested in the affairs of their empire. Whether it's The Troubles or the Suez Crisis, the median public opinion was always "boooorrrrriiing."

I was actually really surprised to discover that the number of foreign workers in Canada is *higher than it's ever been.* All Carney has done is slow the intake (and even that's still pretty high).

These people didn’t just kneecap their own energy industry (making them dependent on Putin) they commandeered every international org to attempt to kneecap the entire developed world. Everyone who was part of the happy chorus cheering this on should be judged accordingly.
European Commission sounds the alarm (now !!!) about the number of oil refineries closing in the region over the last 20 years. "We need to counter this trend," says EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen. "This crisis is a wake-up call." Quite.

I mean, this wasn't the Mariel boatlift bringing in escapees of Communism looking for a better life, this was the public sector funding the higher ed sector by bringing in de-facto temporary foreign workers and calling them "students".

This thread makes a common fundamental error - it ignores demographics. The housing demand from a 30 day old is different than a 30 year old. An unplanned surge in the adult population has a different impact than an unexpectedly high number of births.
1. Population growth, 1980-2025. The spike doesn't begin until 2021, and lasts until 2024.

"Points-based system" but it's just handing out permanent residency to thousands of low-scoring African French speakers

The worst part is that no politician will question this unvetted immigration one since it’s about Canada’s national language. ISP brought Temporary Residents from India 🇮🇳 , French will bring Permanent Residents from Africa 🇿🇦.

“Whoops, we let in way too many people way too quickly for a decade, so now that has to be the new baseline for future immigration” is a wild new level of dogmatism, even for the mass migration apologists.
In the Harper years the population receiving these immigrants was about 20 per cent smaller.

There is a narrative out there that some people don't know that more means more and fewer means fewer.
There's a narrative out there that Mr. Anglin doesn't understand immigration-population growth dynamics
