Today in Budapest, I welcomed Zoran Bogdanovic, CEO of Coca-Cola HBC, who came to launch a 35 billion forint investment project in Dunaharaszti.
Thank you for the truly unique gift: a Herend porcelain Coca-Cola bottle.
According to the investigating authorities, @PM_ViktorOrban's arrested minister and KDNP MP Miklós Seszták kept 9 billion forints in cash in a safe at his home. I wonder how much his accomplices are holding on to.
Following extensive professional and public consultations, the government is proposing a significant tightening of the rules on the use of electric scooters.
More details to follow.
Under the government’s proposal, motorised scooters will be classified as a separate vehicle category and subject to specific rules:
Riding a scooter under the influence of alcohol will be prohibited.
Carrying a passenger on a scooter will be prohibited.
High-powered electric scooters will be banned from pavements in all circumstances.
Low-powered electric scooters will only be allowed on pavements if no other alternative route is available, such as a cycle path.
Under the government’s proposal, electric scooters will be divided into two vehicle categories based on their performance:
- Low-powered scooters will be those with a maximum speed of 25 km/h. Riders must be at least 14 years old, and helmets will be compulsory for anyone under 18.
- High-powered scooters will be those capable of speeds exceeding 25 km/h. They may be used from the age of 16, provided the rider holds at least an AM-category driving licence, which is required for mopeds. Wearing a helmet will be compulsory, and their maximum speed will be capped at 40 km/h.
Rental electric scooters will be subject to a maximum speed limit of 20 km/h.
On behalf of Hungary, I wish to express my deepest and most sincere condolences to the people of Spain following this morning’s horrific train accident. At least 64 people have lost their lives, and many others have been seriously injured in this tragedy.
The TISZA government is raising the limit for individuals on amounts that can be transferred without a transaction levy from 50,000 forints to 150,000 forints. Bank transfers of up to 150,000 forints will be exempt from the transaction levy.
The National Tax and Customs Administration has cracked down companies that had done business with @FM_Szijjarto's ministry and supplied ventilators and masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. An international arrest warrant has been issued for one of the executives.
Energy-efficiency renovations for 120,000 flats and houses by 2030, funded by EU funds unlocked for Hungary; the relaunch of the panel-apartment renovation programme; and targeted support through the Wekerle Sándor homeownership and student accommodation construction programme.
More details to follow.
The TISZA government is launching an unprecedented housing construction and renovation programme, using EU funds unlocked for Hungary.
Through the Wekerle Programme, we are bringing back subsidised housing savings schemes and launching the construction of rental homes.
Parliament will vote next week on TISZA’s proposal to make 24 December a public holiday, starting this year.
We will also vote on the new Prosecutor General.
From 2027, the TISZA government will double the higher-rate child benefit for children with chronic illnesses or severe disabilities.
Around 134,000 children currently receive this allowance. The monthly amount per child will rise from 23,300 to 46,600 forints.
This means an additional 279,600 forints in support per year for families raising children with chronic illnesses or severe disabilities.
The increase will also benefit 28,595 adults with chronic illnesses or severe disabilities who are entitled to this allowance in their own right. Their monthly support will rise from 20,300 to 40,600 forints, giving them an additional 243,600 forints a year.
The increase will also apply to children living with foster families, in children’s homes and in other institutions specified by law, as well as to children in temporary care and other eligible groups covered by specific legal provisions.

Hungary – April 12, 2026
Serbia – October 25, 2026
Surely I wasn’t the only one feeling nostalgic when I saw those pictures coming out of Serbia last night?
It’s symbolic that the "Budapest Express" reached Belgrade in politics before it did on the tracks.
I have just spoken by phone with the leaders of the Students' List @studentblokade, who won the elections in Serbia, to congratulate them on their victory. I assured them of Hungary’s support. I was delighted to hear how much strength our victory in April had given them during this difficult struggle.
In Serbia, @avucic has conceded defeat. The Students’ List has won an absolute majority in the elections. Celebrations have begun in the streets across Serbia.
Sound familiar?
Seventy years ago today, on Bloody Thursday, Soviet troops and the secret police opened fire on unarmed Hungarians peacefully demonstrating in front of Parliament.
The barbaric attack left hundreds dead and wounded.
We will never forget them.

Over the past few days, I have held talks with the leaders of several Balkan countries, and today an important election is taking place in Serbia. It reminded me of how, as a child, I often went with my parents to the Serbian Restaurant, which has since closed down.
Fortunately, you can still find great ćevapi in plenty of places, whether Sarajevo-style or Serbian-style.
