This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇 "For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology”

I realise these videos are aimed at the public sector and MPs, but for what it's worth: The specific criticism is about data portability. The charge is that while Palantir will allow a customer to take their data and “walk away”, that data is in a Palantir format, really only suited to Palantir systems and difficult for other systems to interpret. That’s what I’ve been told by engineers I’ve talked to.
Nobody wants to buy a service they can’t walk away from. Palantir’s critics have long claimed we ‘lock in’ our customers. We don’t. This short film explains why. It’s the first in a series on the gap between the rhetoric about Palantir and the work we actually do.

Off topic for tech but: I am sick and tired of reading news reports that “Oxford Street is being pedestrianised!”. For god’s sake: ONE PART of Oxford St. NOT THE WHOLE DAMN STREET. Right, back to tech… (Grrr…). See maps below.

Extending pedestrianisation to the remainder of Oxford Street is listed only as a "possibility". Designers are developing proposals for the rest of Oxford Street, but there is **no confirmed timetable** for making the entire street traffic-free. Any further traffic-management plans will be subject to consultation. oxfordstreetdc.org.uk/faqs/

Tonight - Serbia feels like the new Hungary - over throwing of a Russia friendly / Putin sympathising leader for something genuinely new - in Serbias case a student led party . Does this shift dynamics in the war on Ukraine ? And with the shape of the EU?
I have just spoken by phone with the leaders of the Students' List @studentblokade, who won the elections in Serbia, to congratulate them on their victory. I assured them of Hungary’s support. I was delighted to hear how much strength our victory in April had given them during this difficult struggle.

As the time gap between frontier models and open source shrinks, so does the cyber security gap.
AI is making it easier to discover security vulnerabilities. But increasingly capable Chinese open-source models could leave defenders with far less time to fix them. The Information's @leomschwartz explains why the cybersecurity advantage enjoyed by defenders may be disappearing. “You're not going to have two months anymore. You might not even have a few days.” Read more: thein.fo/4zOZTf2

“propose taxing the loans the people take out on unrealized shares”. Now there’s an idea…
Replying to @gabriel_zucman
Gabriel, suppose a 25-year-old founder has a stake worth $1B on paper in a startup that just raised $100M at a $3B valuation. The company received that money - not the founder. Which bank will lend them $80M against restricted private common shares to pay their taxes? 99% of banks wont do this. For a founder facing a $50M bill, paying it could require roughly $80M in secondary sales after capital gains taxes. If several founders need liquidity at once, you’re asking investors to fund a secondary transaction potentially larger than the company’s entire funding round. I promise you there will be no buyers of secondary shares of that amount. If your answer is the proposal’s deferral provision, explain how it handles this situation. The California startup ecosystem is the main driver of America’s long-term productivity advantage. The US grew roughly 2.5 times as fast as France last year. Your ideas about about to destroy that. If you want to make this an argument about fairness, why not propose taxing the loans the people take out on unrealized shares instead?

EXCLUSIVE: Tide bank founder @GeorgeBevis, together with co-founder @tomgodber (co-founder and former CTO of Masabi) had an idea. He realised that he could go up against vibe-coding platforms using open-source AI. This would not only make it free to test apps prior to publication, but also make it far more accessible, especially for the school students in Africa he supports, @cruciblelusaka. Thus, his startup, @BuildWithScram, plans to use US-hosted open-weight models like DeepSeek to go up against platforms like Lovable and Replit, which are forced, for now, to use expensive proprietary ones. Exclusive story now on @Pathfounders, link in thread.
