SOCIAL SECURITY IS ABOUT PEOPLE, NOT JUST STATISTICS – NSITF BOSS Social security must go beyond policies, regulations and statistics to protect human dignity, safeguard livelihoods and strengthen economic resilience. This was the central message of the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, at the annual workshop of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), held in Lagos. Speaking through the Deputy General Manager and Head of Corporate Affairs, Alexandra Mede, the NSITF Boss emphasised the need to close existing social protection gaps, particularly as technological advancements, artificial intelligence, automation and emerging work arrangements continue to reshape the world of work. He reaffirmed the importance of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) as a vital social protection mechanism that safeguards employees against work-related injuries, disabilities and occupational risks. Faleye called for stronger awareness, improved employer compliance, accessible services and sustained collaboration among government, labour, employers, the media and development partners to build a sustainable safety net for Nigerian workers and their families. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to advancing workers’ social security and safety, LAWAN honoured Mr Faleye with the prestigious Champion of Workers’ Social Security and Safety Award. The recognition reinforces NSITF's commitment to protecting workers, promoting workplace safety and ensuring that no worker is left without protection. #NSITF #WorkersWelfare #SocialSecurity #EmployeesCompensationScheme #WorkplaceSafety #WorkersRights #LAWAN #EmployeesWelfare

RETIREMENT SECURITY STARTS BEFORE RETIREMENT. At the 2026 National Pre-Retirement Summit, NSITF MD/CE, Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, delivered a clear message: Your retirement security is built throughout your working life. Today, the Employees’ Compensation Scheme protects over 7.8 million workers, while average claims turnaround has improved from 14 days to 10 days. Because protection is not just about registration. It is about prevention, compensation, rehabilitation, timely benefits and protecting families when it matters most. A worker can plan for retirement only when the system is credible enough to plan with. #NSITF #ECS #RetirementSecurity #SocialProtection #WorkersWelfare #EmployeesCompensationScheme #RetirementPlanning #Faleye #NigeriaWorkers

The NSITF has urged the Nigerian Bar Association to champion legal reforms that extend workplace protection and social security to informal-sector, gig and platform workers. Speaking at the 66th NBA Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, MD/CE, Mr Oluseun Faleye, represented by Mrs Bridget Ashang, said: “Social security is not charity. It is social justice.” He urged the NBA to pursue advocacy, legal reforms, test-case litigation, platform liability frameworks and domestication of relevant ILO standards. “Legal frontiers should be expanded from protecting only ‘formal sector’ to ‘ALL.’” #NSITF #SocialSecurity #WorkersRights #NBAAGC #ECS
