Yesterday marked 225 years since the first ever OS map, a map of Kent, was published in 1801. North Yorkshire Archives care for collections that include historic OS maps dating back to the 19th century. This map shows Northallerton in 1929. Take a look and see if you can spot where the North Yorkshire Archives building stands today. See more about North Yorkshire Achieves at northyorks.gov.uk/leisure-to…

This is an important milestone in completing the remaining connections and fully opening the road. - Friday 6 November: Church Hill is due to reopen. - Monday 9 November to Friday 13 November: The A59 will be closed each night from 7pm to 6am between Bolton Abbey roundabout and Menwith Hill crossroads. A signed diversion will be via Ilkley and Otley. Local access will be maintained where possible, but the access route available to individual properties will change as work moves between locations. Local residents affected have been sent further details. - Monday 16 November to Thursday 19 November: Church Hill and Hall Lane junctions with the A59 will be closed during the day for final surfacing. The A59 will remain open to vehicles during this work. - Friday 20 November to Friday 27 November: The A59 will be closed each night from 7pm to 6am between Bolton Abbey roundabout and Menwith Hill crossroads. A signed diversion will be in place via Ilkley and Otley. Please allow extra time for journeys and follow the signed diversion. As Bonfire Night approaches, we're encouraging residents to celebrate safely and responsibly so everyone can enjoy themselves without avoidable injuries, fires or antisocial behaviour. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is at an organised display. Anyone planning a celebration at home should follow the Firework Code, buy fireworks from reputable retailers, keep them in a closed box and use them one at a time. Find out more about firework safety, including the law and the Firework Code, at: northyorks.gov.uk/news/2026/…

If you are concerned about your own relationship or worried about someone you know, help and support is available at northyorks.gov.uk/domestic-a…
