THIS IS FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS!
NYC just voted to END horse-drawn carriages! @NYCCouncil passed Romanch’s Law, and PETA is pledging $50,000 to help horses retire. This moment belongs to every PETA supporter who never gave up, and @SpeakerMenin and @NYCMayor for their leadership!
New York City is putting a stop to this!
@NYCCouncil voted to pass Romanch’s Law, which will officially phase out horse carriages by 2028! PETA also announced we will donate $50,000 to the horses' retirement 🫶
Thanks @SpeakerMenin and @NYCMayor all of your support 👏
A huge THANK YOU to NYC Council Member @CMMercedesCD46 for voting to end NYC's horse-drawn carriage industry 🐴❤️ Your support is an important step toward safer streets for everyone and ensuring these horses can retire.
After 40+ years of campaigning, NYC has voted to end its horse-drawn carriage industry🎉🐴
This deadly industry has claimed the lives of horses and a teenage boy. Now, horses are leaving dangerous city streets behind, and we're pledging $50,000 to help them retire to greener pastures!
Huge thanks to Speaker @JulieMenin, @NYCMayor, Edie Falco, and every advocate who made this victory possible! 💚
We're pledging $50,000 to help NYC's carriage horses retire to greener pastures.
We teamed up with 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 actor and comedian @brettgelman for a hilariously disturbing SeaWorld employee training video exposing the horrors behind the park's “family-friendly” facade.
The scariest part is that what happens to the animals is REAL. Don't buy a ticket! peta.vg/496b
SeaWorld loves dolphins to DEATH 🐬💀
𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 star @brettgelman is roasting the park for imprisoning intelligent, sensitive animals for entertainment while hiding behind the guise of conservation. More than 40 orcas & 500 other dolphins & whales have died in its tanks.
Urge SeaWorld to send these animals to seaside sanctuaries and END its dolphin breeding program👇 peta.vg/496b
📣 Horses have collapsed & died on NYC streets & a teenager has been killed in carriage-related incidents, yet you’ve withdrawn your support for ending this industry. Their suffering shouldn’t be up for debate. NYC must follow through on the ban for the safety of humans & horses.
I have always believed that our carriage horses deserve to be treated with the utmost care, respect, and consideration. Their well-being must remain a priority, and I support efforts to ensure they receive the proper care and living conditions they deserve. However, I can no longer support a carriage horse ban that fails to give the same level of consideration to the hardworking carriage drivers whose livelihoods are at stake.
A report exploring alternative employment opportunities is simply not enough to justify implementing a ban in 2028. These drivers deserve a meaningful plan, real solutions, and a clear path forward before their ability to earn a living is taken away. We can advocate for the welfare of these horses while also treating the workers and their families fairly. Until those concerns are adequately addressed, I cannot support moving forward with this ban and I have removed my name as a sponsor of the legislation.
We're here for the dogs who never got the protection they deserved and those whose lives are still at risk 💔 Together with @SWOTNonprofit, we're calling on Mayor @KarenBassLA to let @LAPDHQ enforce animal protection laws equally, because a dog's ZIP code should NEVER determine whether they're protected. – at Los Angeles, CA
Apparently, requiring experimenters to justify using animals was asking too much. The head of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of @NIH, has backtracked from that requirement.
@NIHDirector_Jay, @SecKennedy, @HHSGov: NIH needs to stop funding this bad science.
Urge your members of Congress to introduce legislation enacting Research Modernization NOW, which would mandate that @NIH fulfill its promises to move away from experiments on animals and toward modern, non-animal research methods 👇 peta.vg/495s
