Excerpt from author Hebok’s X Space on October 24, 2026
Actually, there was something rather negative that I heard when rumors first started circulating that I was going to produce a BL drama.
There were a lot of people saying that actors who chose to star in BL dramas did so because they wanted to become famous quickly and easily.
Yes, that’s quite a heartbreaking thing to hear, isn’t it?
However, when I looked at the profiles of Kim Yoon Sik and Park Si Woo, I realized that, even by the time they were cast in 2025, Yoon Sik had already been taking on minor roles since his first year of university. By then, he had spent nearly nine years working in the industry without gaining widespread recognition.
As for Si Woo, I believe he appeared on Produce 101 around 2019, which meant he had also spent nearly seven years in the industry without becoming widely known.
After learning all this and looking through their profiles, I found myself wondering how to put it into words. Their career histories seemed to bear traces of the times they had once hoped for something, only to be disappointed.
Throughout that process from the prolonged casting process, during which I kept following the search for the right actors until Yoon Sik was finally found, to learning more about the actors themselves, I had gradually come to think of them as the actors of my own work, thinking, “These are my actors.”
That was why looking at their profiles made me feel so heartbroken.
I didn’t think they had chosen this drama simply because they wanted to become famous quickly.
But isn’t that how things really are?
In the entertainment industry, sometimes an actor’s life can change completely, and their luck can finally turn, simply because they catch someone’s attention on a film set. Wouldn’t they have carried that kind of hope with them every single time they went to a set?
That made me suddenly wonder, “What if these two actors chose my work because they wanted this opportunity so desperately?”
If that was the case, I felt truly sorry for having thought, while waiting, “Whatever happens, happens.”
But no matter how I looked at it, I felt that they had wanted this opportunity so very much. Their profiles made me feel as though they had been so desperate for this chance that they could hardly have taken any other path.
Oh, right. I also mentioned this in the comments. That was exactly why I wanted so badly for these actors to succeed.
