I've been posting daily to Twitter for almost 15 years -- a curated feed of health news from around the world.
Now I'm done.
Going forward, I will only post stories I write myself, with few exceptions.
Thank you for having followed @picardonhealth. 🇨🇦

Rabies: Coming soon to a neighbourhood near you? We’re seeing an uptick in the disease in urban areas, with most of the cases in raccoons and skunks, in addition to bats, by @picardonhealth theglobeandmail.com/gift/0fc… (gift link) via @GlobeDebate

I can think of a few things they could have meaningfully addressed.
Can our health ministers ever focus on reform, not just money? At their meeting last week, health leaders talked about a lot of things, but committed to almost nothing as the system crumbles around them, by @picardonhealth theglobeandmail.com/gift/0fc… (gift link) via @GlobeDebate

Waivers of final consent are only for track 1 patients. They are used when a patient risks losing decision-making capacity in the coming hours or days. It's not an equivalent or substitute for advance consent by patients with dementia.

I had no idea that Helen Branswell was ill. I'm deeply saddened to hear of her passing. When I became CDC director, a very astute member of the CDC press office told me that I wasn't ready for a briefing unless I was ready for questions from Helen Branswell. Her questions were always thoughtful, knowledgeable, and fair. Her reporting showed us where we needed to improve and informed the public about health. We need more reporters like her. I'll miss her.

Deeply saddened by the passing of @HelenBranswell, a journalist of integrity and professionalism. Throughout her career, Helen demonstrated an unwavering commitment to evidence, science and truth, helping the public understand some of the most complex and consequential health challenges of our time. At a moment when misinformation competes with facts, her reporting was a trusted source of clarity, honesty and insight.
We at @WHO were privileged to work with Helen over many years, whether through one-on-one interviews or the hundreds of press conferences she attended during COVID-19 and beyond. Her questions were always informed, thoughtful and fair, reflecting a deep commitment to helping the public understand the facts and their implications for health.
On behalf of WHO, I extend my sincere condolences to Helen’s family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.
Why is Ottawa so hellbent on limiting access to MAID? Creating unreasonable barriers to medical assistance in dying for people with mental illness is discriminatory. Leaving policies on advance requests to the provinces is a cop-out, by @picardonhealth

Publicly funded Catholic hospitals are crucial. "But institutions don’t have a conscience, and they don’t have rights. Individuals do. You can’t coerce religious observance on patients by denying them routine procedures". Time for change. @picardonhealth
