Accor expects a flat fourth quarter, partly because of unrest in France and wars in the Middle East. France is Accor's largest market, with 23% of its room revenue. The Middle East brings in about 11%. Accor has seen "a bit of a pick-up in the cancellations" in France, Martine Gerow, its chief financial officer, said. She said forward bookings show nothing that concerns the company. Accor expects revenue per available room, a key hotel measure, to fall about 12% in the Middle East in the fourth quarter. It fell 3% there in the third quarter. Morgan Stanley analyst Jamie Rollo called the outlook "overly conservative." hubs.li/Q04C7-Jk0

Extreme heat is estimated to have caused more than 50,000 excess heat deaths in European towns and cities during summer 2026, according to two new peer-reviewed studies — and climate change is largely to blame.   Popular tourist cities faced criticism this summer for their lack of shaded spaces and air conditioning. But new analysis by Imperial College London and by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine shows heat is an increasingly important safety issue.  Europe’s tourism industry must figure out how to adapt — as a matter of safety, not just comfort. hubs.li/Q04C70kP0

Hotel owners and operators may look at the same property and see two different measures of success. An operator can point to pipeline growth, distribution strength, and system scale. An owner is more likely to ask what those capabilities do for the hotel's economics. Skift Studio spoke with Wayne Williams, chief financial officer of Minor Hotels, about how capital exposure can shape investment decisions, what owners should look for beyond headline growth metrics, and why testing ideas with an operator’s own money can matter before those ideas are taken to third-party owners.
