Trump is dismantling the science system that made America a superpower. NIH has delayed or canceled over 2,000 grants on Alzheimer’s, cancer and more, NSF is withholding more than $1 billion, Energy lost over 1,000 scientists, and Pentagon labs lost 14% of their staff, which the Pentagon itself says could have grave consequences for defense. China is catching up while foreign Ph.D. applications drop 21%. We built this over 80 years, and it’s being gutted in under two. nytimes.com/2026/10/31/clima… #MedSky #LawSky #press #Science #NIH #NSF #Research #DOGE #China

Trump wants to open the Olympic Peninsula's ancient forests and wild salmon rivers to logging.
In August, we know the admin moved to scrap the Roadless Rule. It protects about 45 million acres of national forest. Today I want to talk about one of those areas: the Olympic National Forest in Washington State, and some of the rivers that start there.
One is the Humptulips River, a top-ten trophy fishing river in Washington. Its headwaters sit in the Moonlight Dome Roadless Area.
Another is the Quilcene Roadless Area. It feeds the drinking water supply for Port Townsend.
These are ancient forests, and their rivers are home to wild salmon. Scrapping the rule means logging and new roads.
And this isn't the first try. In 2025, budget drafts listed 300,000 acres of Olympic National Forest as eligible for sale. That was removed.
The Wild Olympics Campaign, a coalition working to protect the Olympic Peninsula's forests and rivers, says these areas could be open to industrial development in 2027.
More than 1 million people told the Forest Service to keep the Roadless Rule. The administration is barreling ahead anyway. And this isn't just one forest. Roadless areas across the country are at risk.
There's a fix for this area. The Wild Olympics Act would protect these lands permanently, by law. Washington Senator Patty Murray first introduced it in 2012. About 800 tribes, businesses and groups back it.
Now sportsmen and lawmakers are racing to pass it by the end of 2026. If it doesn't pass by then, it dies with this Congress and has to start over.
Sign the petition in the first reply. Washingtonians need to call Senators Murray and Cantwell. And if you have any friends in the state, please share this with them as well. It's imperative we reach everyone there.

France is showing the world what real accountability looks like. Paris prosecutors have launched a major criminal investigation into Elon Musk’s X, raided its Paris offices and summoned Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino for questioning.
The allegations are staggering, political manipulation through algorithms, child sexual abuse material, sexually explicit deepfakes generated by Grok without consent, Holocaust denial, unlawful data extraction and election interference.
While Musk parades around pretending to be a defender of free speech, his platform faces allegations involving the exploitation of children, the sexual abuse of women through AI-generated imagery, the manipulation of political discourse and threats to democratic elections.
Bravo, France! This is what standing up to billionaire arrogance looks like. Democracy is not a billionaire's personal playground, social media platforms are not above the law, and Elon Musk does not get to buy himself immunity from accountability. France is making it clear that the rule of law still matters, and the rest of the democratic world should be paying attention.

ACLU Releases Video of ICE Agent Slashing Observers’ Tire
ICE agents tailed, boxed in, and then slashed the tire of observers’ vehicle before driving away
ICE is terrorizing our communities—now slashing tires of a Portland resident who attempted to shine a light on their abusive behavior. Amid ICE's unlawfulness, the right to bear witness has never been more important to hold our government accountable aclu.org/press-releases/aclu…

Here’s what we should be spending $1.8 billion on:
600+ million school lunches
Salaries for 27,000+ new teachers
School supplies for 10.5 million kids for a year
Not on Trump’s ego-fueled vanity projects. He’s wasting our tax dollars on himself.

The Kremlin has spent years courting Donald Trump. Now they're seeing the payoff.
The United States of America is now helping Putin in his war against Ukraine.
I find that tragic.

Trump has done everything Putin has wanted him to do.
In Helsinki he stood with Putin and disclaimed U.S. intelligence. He lobbied to bring Russia back into the G-7.
He withheld military aid to Zelensky and pulled out of Syria to give Russia a freer hand.
He questioned NATO, lifted sanctions on Deripaska-linked companies, and walked away from the INF Nuclear Treaty.
He walked away from Open Skies, leaving European allies blind to what Russia was actually doing.
He slowed down Starlink for Ukraine and struck a diesel fuel deal with Russia even though he could’ve gotten a better deal with Canada.
How can you not see the link??

What’s a polite way to tell someone, “I’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?

THE MOST INCOMPETENT WAR IN HISTORY: SARAH PAINE ON TRUMP’S IRAN DISASTER
Dr. Sarah Paine, a leading historian of great-power conflict and strategy, delivers a blunt verdict on the Iran war. She calls it one of the most incompetent wars in human history. The decision ignored basic principles of assessment, put maximum costs on America itself, and left permanent damage to the country’s power and alliances. This is not hindsight—it is the predictable result of hubris meeting reality.
THE CORE VERDICT
➡️ “The Iran war is probably one of the most incompetent wars in human history.”
➡️ A competent war puts the costs on the enemy and minimizes them for yourself.
➡️ This one did the opposite.
THE COST CATASTROPHE
➡️ It trashed the US economy.
➡️ It blew the US alliance system.
➡️ Iran is hurting, but the collateral damage is taking down the world’s economy.
➡️ That transforms the United States from a partner into an annoyance—and for many, a primary adversary—because it is threatening their economies.
➡️ “That’s breathtakingly incompetent.”
THE STRATEGIC BLIND SPOT
➡️ Any serious assessment looks at the enemy’s strengths and your own weaknesses, plus everyone else who might intervene.
➡️ That was absent.
➡️ The first thing Iran would do is shut Hormuz. Narrow seas close in wartime. Ukraine already showed this with the Black Sea.
➡️ Shore artillery, mines, and other tools stop traffic. There is no mystery here.
➡️ The big naval base in Bahrain becomes unreachable. The fallback is Diego Garcia, 2,500 miles away in the middle of nowhere. “That would be a mess.”
THE HUBRIS THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE
➡️ The people making the calls are historically unqualified for the job. That makes them profoundly dangerous.
➡️ Type A hubris assumes all decisions that matter happen in the United States.
➡️ Type B hubris assumes being good at one thing makes you good at everything.
➡️ Half-court tennis: you only watch your own side and never study the other team.
➡️ The Iranians understand Americans far better than Americans understand them.
THE UNFEASIBLE OBJECTIVE
➡️ Trying to “solve” Iran with 90 million people was never realistic.
➡️ Nazi Germany had roughly 80 million and required an occupation force of about 1.5 million just to hold it after the war—before counting everyone else.
➡️ The goal was unattainable. Pursuing it guarantees overextension and a bad ending.
➡️ The lesson the world takes is simple: get a nuke. The war incentivized proliferation.
➡️ This was a pivotal error. The choices that existed before are gone and will not return. “We will never be the trusted partner ever again. It’s done.”
THE BOTTOM LINE
The Iran war did not merely fail. It maximized American costs, destroyed trust with allies, and handed every rival a clearer reason to treat the United States as a threat to their own prosperity. Competence would have contained the problem at affordable cost. Hubris chose the opposite.
This is what permanent strategic damage looks like.

Trump is reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election.
Some of us have been briefed on the war plan. And while I cannot disclose any details, I can say this: the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.

"New records obtained by KARE 11 show the company that owned a vacant private prison in Appleton, Minnesota offered to sell it to the state in 2025 for $75 million.
One year later, the Trump administration agreed to use taxpayer funds to buy the same abandoned prison from CoreCivic, Inc., for $495.6 million.
The price difference, $420 million, is more than taxpayers are estimated to have lost in Minnesota’s much-publicized Feeding Our Future fraud scandal." kare11.com/article/news/inve…
