The next generation of credit union members won’t wait. Will credit unions be ready? Younger consumers are more likely to bank with traditional banks than credit unions, and a strong cooperative story may not be enough to change that. In his latest op-ed, Alan Bergstrom argues that credit unions must pair their values with convenient digital experiences, clear benefits and a member journey that makes joining—and staying—easy. The challenge isn’t to imitate banks. It’s to make the credit union difference matter in everyday financial life. Two credit unions. Two new CEOs. Georgia’s Own Credit Union has named longtime executive Eric S. Broome its next president and CEO, succeeding Dave Preter after nearly 18 years. In Michigan, TLC Community Credit Union has tapped Alycia Nichols, a 24-year employee who rose from part-time teller to executive vice president, to succeed Jeff Brehmer in July 2027. The leadership news comes as Georgia’s Own reports a loss of more than $56 million through the first three quarters of 2026. TLC, meanwhile, posted higher earnings for the same period. Personalization in digital banking should go beyond changing colors, rearranging menus or adding a favorite team’s logo. Real personalization starts with knowing who the account holder is and understanding what they need. Credit Union of Colorado (CU of CO)’s experience shows why trust comes first. By combining Cryptographic Device Authentication (CDA) with real-time fraud intelligence, the credit union strengthened security, reduced friction by 90% and cut manual fraud reviews by 98%. bit.ly/4e8stQi

Faster lending. Smarter decisions. Better member experiences. In this edition of "5 Questions with..." John Holt, the president and CEO of Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union discusses how digital loan origination can speed up decisions, reduce manual work and make borrowing easier — without sacrificing sound underwriting or fraud prevention. Holt also explains why system integration matters and which metrics credit unions should track to determine whether their technology investments are paying off. In the latest episode of the Digital Banking Podcast, host Josh DeTar welcomed Nick Wodogaza, credit union champion and advisor with CuS Together, and former CEO of Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union. Wodogaza spent 45 years in the credit union movement across just two employers, a state league and Palmetto Citizens, where he led for 28 years before retiring to work with credit unions full time. Wodogaza laid out a framework he used in strategic planning sessions: important issues were rarely urgent, and urgent issues were rarely important, which meant credit unions often spent their time firefighting instead of addressing the member-focused, people, and operations issues that actually determined their future. bit.ly/4BvCO2N

🚀 Tyfone is putting AI at the center of digital banking. Tyfone has unveiled nFinia Reimagined, a new digital banking platform with Fathom AI woven throughout the experience — bringing natural-language conversations, personalized financial guidance and banking actions into one place. iTHINK Financial will be the first Tyfone customer to launch Fathom, with the AI-powered experience expected to go live this fall. Why now? According to the 2026 TD Bank AI Insights Report, 55% of Americans already use AI to help manage their finances. The challenge for community financial institutions is keeping those conversations — and the financial relationship — inside the institution. As Tyfone CEO Siva Narendra puts it: “AI isn’t another feature we’ve added to digital banking. It’s woven throughout the experience.” bit.ly/4gtcvQR

Two credit unions. Nearly $8 billion in assets. A bigger footprint across the Pacific Northwest. @numericacu and @SELCOCCU plan to merge, creating Oregon’s second-largest Oregon-chartered credit union, with more than 325,000 members and 38 branches. The deal, expected to be completed by early 2028, would put Numerica CEO Carla Cicero at the helm of the combined organization, which will operate under the Numerica name. The credit unions say they plan to retain all existing branches as they combine their technology, products and resources. The proposed merger is the latest sign of credit unions pursuing greater scale while working to preserve their local ties.
