Excellent job by our wildlife rescuers! A massive 10-foot-long crocodile weighing 134 kg was rescued by the Forest Department and ResQ team from near a house in Usgao late last night. The crocodile was subsequently microchipped and safely released into its natural habitat downstream. Protecting the health and safety of every Goan remains our priority. The FDA intensified surveillance across Bardez, inspecting farsan manufacturers, online delivery stores, sweet marts and chicken slaughter units. Out of 6 establishments inspected, 2 were directed to suspend operations due to unhygienic conditions. Around 110 kg of farsan worth ₹18,700 and 160 kg of roasted kabuli chana along with 10 kg of peanuts worth ₹15,000 were destroyed after being found expired, improperly labelled and stored in unhygienic conditions. The affected premises will remain shut until deficiencies are rectified and compliance is verified. Protecting the health and safety of every Goan remains our priority. An early morning FDA inspection drive in Margao targeted food products being transported through interstate vehicles. The team detained 25 packets of milk worth ₹5,000 and 36 kg of kharvas worth ₹10,800, transported without a valid FSSAI licence and mandatory label declarations. Two unclaimed bags of fried onions weighing 80 kg and worth ₹24,000 were also detained for lack of labelling. A total of 141 kg of food products worth ₹39,800 was destroyed in the interest of public health. Our surveillance at interstate entry points will continue to ensure that only safe, properly labelled and compliant food reaches consumers across Goa.
