Ike Morris made the Mountain State his home, and few people have done more to give back to the state they love. He came to West Virginia with little more than determination and a willingness to work hard, built a remarkable business, and spent the rest of his life helping others find the same opportunities he had been given.
Ike was a pioneer in West Virginia's oil and natural gas industry, creating jobs, building businesses, and helping strengthen the economy of our state for more than six decades. But as impressive as his business accomplishments were, his generosity and commitment to his fellow West Virginians may be his greatest legacy.
His contributions to Glenville State University transformed the campus and opened doors for countless students. His support for youth athletics, scholarships, and community programs made a lasting difference throughout Gilmer County and beyond. And perhaps most remarkably, so much of what Ike did for others was done quietly, without seeking recognition or anything in return.
Ike understood something important about West Virginia. Our greatest strength has always been our people and our willingness to help our neighbors. He never forgot the kindness shown to him when he first arrived in Glenville, and he spent his life returning that kindness many times over.
Denise and I extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Sue, their children, Doug and Shelly, and the entire Morris family. West Virginia has lost an extraordinary businessman, a generous philanthropist, and a true friend to so many. His legacy will live on for generations in the communities he helped build and the lives he touched.

Governor Morrisey stands with President @realDonaldTrump and @VP in the fight against fraud.
By joining the Vice President's pledge, West Virginia is reaffirming its commitment to protecting vulnerable Americans, safeguarding taxpayer dollars, and holding those who abuse public programs accountable.
Do you hate fraud?
If so, I’m calling on you to join me in taking the pledge to protect Americans from fraudsters, by doing everything in your power to ensure that:
1. Vulnerable Americans, such as the elderly, indigent, and disabled, are protected from fraudsters who seek to prey on them.
2. Taxpayer-funded programs serve law-abiding Americans, not illegal aliens or fraudsters.
3. Taxpayer-funded benefits are not used by fraudsters to buy mansions or luxury cars.
4. Public agencies and officials work tirelessly and aggressively, coordinating at all levels of government, to stop fraud before payments go out the door.
5. Fraudsters face justice for their crimes in a court of law. Convicted fraudsters will be imprisoned and barred from ever receiving another penny of taxpayer dollars.
6. Illegal alien fraudsters are promptly arrested, prosecuted, imprisoned, and deported, never able to take advantage of Americans’ generosity again.
Governor Morrisey announced $9 million in new federal funding to help 3,600 West Virginia students annually across 20 counties prepare for college, workforce training and good-paying jobs.

Living in a small town shouldn't mean having to travel hours to get good healthcare.
We're working to give local health centers better technology, help doctors work together, and make it easier for families to get the care they need close to home.
That's how we make healthcare better for West Virginians across the state.

Better healthcare starts with giving doctors and nurses more time to care for their patients and less time dealing with paperwork.
By making our rural health centers more efficient, we can improve access to care, help West Virginians lead healthier lives, and get more people back into the workforce.
That's why today's nearly $2.2 million investment in West Virginia's community health centers is so important.

Governor Patrick Morrisey today issued the following statement on the passing of Frank Giardina, a longtime West Virginia broadcaster, former Marshall University athletics administrator and former member of the Attorney General's Office.
Frank Giardina was a remarkable West Virginian, and I was fortunate to know him and work alongside him during my time as Attorney General.
Frank had a deep Christian faith and a gift for connecting with people. Whether behind the microphone calling Marshall games, working with student-athletes or serving the people of West Virginia, he made a lasting impression on those around him.
One of the many memories I recall fondly is traveling with Frank and hearing him regale me with stories about the sports legends in every county we visited. He was such a good man, and he loved our state so, so much.
Denise and I join Frank's many friends and admirers in mourning his passing. His contributions to West Virginia and the lives he touched will not be forgotten. Our prayers are with his family and loved ones.
