Today, Zipline raised $1.5b at a $21.5b valuation.
When we started Zipline, flying autonomously in the US was illegal. Which made it really hard to convince investors to give us money! But we were too naive to think that meant we shouldn’t try.
We started the company on a cow farm. We worked out of run-down construction trailers so that we could keep engineering, manufacturing, and flight test all unified and in one place. Hiring people from normal companies like Google was hard because we didn’t have a cafe or laundry service. But enough risk takers and rebels wanted to go on an insane adventure with us. They became the early team.
We decided to launch in smaller countries and focus on life-saving use cases. We hired incredible entrepreneurs and operators in Rwanda, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, and other countries. For eight years, Zipline expanded our service across Africa, serving thousands of hospitals and health facilities and reducing maternal mortality by 51%. Today, the network saves over 14k lives every year and is cash flow positive.
Last year, Zipline launched at scale in the US and the service exploded. We grew flight volumes about 100x over the last 18 months, and now make more than a million deliveries a year per metro. We’re now expanding with our partners to millions of deliveries per day. Normal families love having access to anything they need in 10-20 minutes, no matter where they live. Spend more time with loved ones and less time worrying about errands.
Zipline builds drone delivery that is silent and safe. No one wants to hear an extremely loud “swarm of bees” delivering to their backyard or their neighbor’s. Automated delivery needs to be insanely quiet, which guided the overall architecture of our technology delivering from 330 ft in the air. We are 6 times quieter than the closest competitor during delivery. Zipline also now has over 150m commercial autonomous miles (10x the rest of the industry combined) and no safety incidents. Neighborhoods should demand silent and safe delivery!
Today, Zipline is announcing two things. First, we just signed the largest autonomous vehicle contract in human history to expand automated delivery nationally with Walmart, our first and biggest partner in the US. We’re starting by scaling to 300 supercenters throughout the country. Second, we’ve raised $1.5b at a $21.5b valuation from existing and new investors, led by Paradigm, WCM, and Layer.
Zipline was a hard company to believe in for the first ten years of our history. Investors didn’t think the company was “investable”. Most people didn’t even think Zipline was an economic venture. Thanks to those who have rooted for us along the way. To all of the tens of millions of customers and families who rely on Zipline day in and day out: thank you for helping us build the future. Zipline has grown more than @ryanzip, @keenanwyrobek, I, and all others at the company could have imagined.
There is a big opportunity to build a new layer of infrastructure for humanity over the coming years. We want to approximate teleportation. We can build a logistics network that connects and serves all people on earth. We can free human flourishing from the choking constraint of traffic and roads. There are no roads where we’re going. 🚀🌎

We're very proud to have backed @zipline and @Keller from Day -1, before it was anything resembling the incredible company it is today. Congratulations, Zipline team, on your continued progress.

Today I'm excited to share that @usefootprint has raised a $25M Series B, bringing our total funding to $45M.
Financial institutions are in an arms race with cartels and oligarchs.
The movement of illicit money globally has grown by $1.3 trillion since 2023, now sitting at $4.4 trillion. And bad actors have taken full advantage of AI’s capabilities: generating fake identities and shell companies faster than any team can manually review.
Yet, the work to combat financial crimes is still being done the old way - risk teams sifting through spreadsheets, PDFs, and disconnected tools one case at a time.
AI lets us reimagine this sector.
We're solving for this at @usefootprint by focusing on two things: time and memory.
→ Time: Percy runs your compliance program end-to-end in 1/10th the time, so your institution has extra eyes on every case, and your human analysts dedicate their time to the ones that truly matter.
→ Memory: Trust Fabric makes sure the grey area is removed and learnings are universal so your team (whether 5 or 500 people) catches more true positives and identifies fraud rings before they form.
With this raise, we're doubling down on the thesis that risk operations will be re-envisioned for the AI-native era. As AI increases financial crime in the global economy, we're building the defense system that can expand to meet and defeat it.
We're honored @QEDInvestors doubled down on their conviction, leading our Series B two years after leading our Series A. The same goes for those who have invested since day one: @lererhippeau, @indexventures, @BoxGroup, Operator Partners, Definition, and @animalcapitalco. And for new investors @am_mufg_jp, @commercevc, @lightbank, and @alumniventures.
To the Footprint team: this company would be nowhere without your belief in building a digital world full of trust. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being on this journey with us.
To our customers: thank you for trusting us with your most important decisions. Your partnership is helping us build a better future for financial crime compliance.

Congratulations to Max Wechter on his promotion to Senior Director of AI. In this role, Max will continue and expand upon the work he's already done leading our internal AI strategy at LH.
Under Max's leadership, we've built a firm-wide operating system, data layer, and MCP to help manage all aspects of our business - our networks, our founders and portfolio companies, and a huge range of our sourcing, investment, and operational processes.
We're excited to share more of our learnings as we continue to define what it means to operate as an AI-native venture firm, best equipped to support early stage founders from day negative 1.
Really smart. Hard to not get pulled out with the tide in today’s market, but this is really well said. Respect
Never Compete. I was on with someone from our team at slow talking about competition recently… ‘how do you compete in venture capital’, etc… win deals. My honest philosophy?
I hate competition professionally (love it in sport, but not business)…. And I think competition is especially stupid in early stage venture capital, where you are competing over / crawling over each other for out of the money call options on things that almost certainly will not work.
Early stage VC competition on deals almost by definition leads to over-pricing / overpaying … and it also demonstrates a fundamental lack of creativity. Egotistically, if you want your money to matter / to make a difference, you want to be funding otherwise unfunded opportunities — where you see something others don’t… where money is most expensive, commands the highest return AND - to put a nice spin on it - where the money matters the most.
So if you find yourself in a competition over a seed deal, IMHO you are a bad capitalist / limiting your returns, an un-creative person / a mere ‘market participant’ (yuck), and also misusing the incredible mandate and license you have to find things and make them happen in the world.
You have to be careful about seeing mirages, because some things / most things are not funded because they are actually bad.. you can’t like things just because they are unliked… BUT your job is to have discipline in the wilderness / in the wander, and as the game evolves … both as a capitalist, and egotistically as someone who realizes how awful it is for your tombstone to say ‘market participant’
This one is particularly special. @rossfinman is a legend in the making...

LH Investor Maurice Russo opines on the future of AI and why it might play a greater role in optimizing decisionmaking and judgment in the not-so-distant future.
As a former professional poker player, he considers how the solver changed poker, and the Stockfish changed chess, and how a similar pattern may unfold with AI tooling.
Maurice's take: “More and more of our daily decisions will have a model sitting next to them, absorbing more context than we can, comparing against more history than we can, pattern matching more accurately than we can, and giving us a reference point we’ll feel increasingly irresponsible ignoring.”

We are pleased to welcome Ron Zori to the LH team as Venture Partner. He joins as we start to deploy LH Fund IX, a $200M fund focused exclusively on early stage investments.
Ron joins us after a decade of operating and investing in tech companies across New York, Israel, and Europe. He’s backed more than 35 companies as an angel and via SPVs, including Voyantis, Blank Street, OpenWeb, and Public, which he later joined as VP of Business & Corporate Development and helped to grow from 1K to more than 1M monthly users in less than 18 months. He also led revenue at Knotel, which he helped to grow from $0 to over $370M ARR. He was among a16z’s first scouts and began his career as a professional soccer player. He has deep networks across Israel and Continental Europe, and he feels, as we do, that Lerer Hippeau is the best partner for founders looking to commercialize and expand into the United States.
We are thrilled to have Ron in our camp as we work to serve our founders as their first and most aligned institutional partner.
