A major milestone for the P5 OPTIMAL trial: the first patients have now been randomized in the U.S.
P5 is exploring a new paradigm for the assessment and management of coronary calcium before complex PCI, using #CCTA to guide treatment planning and calcium modification strategies.

In calcified nodules morphology influences hemodynamics 🌊
Eruptive calcified nodules generate significantly higher velocities and greater shear stress heterogeneity than non-eruptive nodules. This may lead to higher platelet activation in eruptive nodules

Patient-specific CCTA-, OCT- and CFD-based modelling revealed greater flow disturbances and shear heterogeneity in eruptive versus non-eruptive calcified nodules, providing new mechanistic insights into plaque instability.
