If we want to make homeownership more attainable in California, we have to start building condos again.
Today, we barely do.
Here's why that matters — and why I'm working on reforming California's construction defect laws. 🧵
It’s insane and absolutely outrageous that game six of WNBA finals is going to be at 9:30amPT. Is there an actual adult in the room that can fix this?
Dolores Huerta lived an extraordinary life that inspired generations of Californians to dream bigger and do better. Her fierce commitment to equality was a gift to us all, showing what’s possible when we come together to fight for what’s right. Thank you, Dolores, for everything.
A room full of badass women trying to build housing? Count me in.
Loved joining @BIABayArea’s Women’s Leadership Conference to talk about being a mom in the Legislature, the work ahead to build more homes for Californians, & what it takes to lead & keep showing up.
Bay Area residents take 1M+ trips every weekday on our four largest transit systems — to get to work, school & everywhere in between.
We can’t let devastating cuts take that away. I’m voting YES on the Regional Transit Measure to keep our region moving. sfgate.com/news/bayarea/arti…
Transit is an affordability issue, too. We’re working to build more housing near jobs and transit — but that only works if the trains and buses are actually running.

.@BuffyWicks said California has the institutional knowledge, tech industry relationships and the ability to pass tough legislation.
Parents shouldn’t have to take on Big Tech alone to keep their kids safe online.
Thanks to @PunchbowlNews and @Dareasmunhoz for yesterday’s conversation in Sacramento about putting kids’ well-being first — and making sure our laws keep up with the technology shaping their lives.

🚨 Doomscrolling meets legislation.
On Thursday, October 22, Punchbowl News was in Sacramento to talk with California Assemblymember @BuffyWicks about the news of the day and digital wellbeing for kids and teenagers in California.
Punchbowl News Tech Reporter @Dareasmunhoz led the conversation.
California helped build the tech economy. Let’s build what comes next.
Fired up to join today’s Quantum California convening at UCLA. With my AB 940 now law, we’re working to keep quantum innovation here — & make sure the jobs and opportunities that come with it stay here, too.
More townhomes. More paths to homeownership.
Great to join @QuirkSilva65th at the New California Coalition convening yesterday to talk AB 1751 — and how it will help get more townhomes built across California.

We can make CA a place people can afford to stay. But we have to build.
That’s why I’m supporting Props 1 & 37 — starting w/the housing bond I fought for: Prop 1 provides $11.25B for affordable homes for seniors, veterans, students & working families.

Saving for a down payment while paying California rent? The math is brutal.
Prop 37 helps buyers over that hurdle, tying down-payment assistance to newly built homes — encouraging more construction, too.
More homes. More homeowners. Yes on 1 & 37.

We tend to talk about poverty in terms of what people earn. We need to talk more about what it costs to keep a roof over their heads.
This research reinforces it: reducing housing costs could lift millions out of poverty. Any serious affordability agenda must start with housing.
"The housing shortage in the United States not only drives up rents, it is also a significant driver of poverty." The @nytimes summarizes my collaboration Pew, which quantifies how high housing costs lead to higher poverty rates for 10 U.S. states. nytimes.com/2026/09/29/reale…

We’re working to solve California’s housing crisis.
It was a pleasure to join Assemblymember @BuffyWicks, labor, local elected officials, and community members who are turning this site in El Cerrito into housing: public land next to a BART station, a 100% affordable building, homes built in a factory, and union labor on the job. It’s the first phase of a plan to turn BART parking lots into 743 homes.
This is what building housing the right way looks like. Every Californian deserves a home they can afford, close to where they work.
On Monday, Secretary @XavierBecerra joined Assemblymember @BuffyWicks (D-Oakland), BART Director Barnali Ghosh and BART General Manager Bob Powers for a tour of 70 affordable apartments under construction at the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station.
We know how to build more affordable housing. We just need to do a whole lot more of it.
Today @XavierBecerra joined me in El Cerrito to see 70 new affordable homes taking shape, thanks to state funding, housing reforms & innovative construction.
More of this, CA!

Well, look at that. CA is seeing a big increase in multifamily housing permits.
We passed historic CEQA reforms w/AB 130 to make it easier to build housing & now we’re seeing momentum. There’s still lots of work to do, but this is an encouraging sign. ocregister.com/2026/10/08/ca…
