Today I will introduce the Military Operations Bill to Parliament. In recent years we have subjected our brave service men and women to a slow-motion moral failure. We have watched as our legal system imports laws written to apply to civilians in peacetime into lethal combat zones. As a result, troops tell their commanders they no longer fear only the enemy in front of them but the lawyer behind them. My Bill would put an end to that and ensure that those who defend us know the State stands firmly behind them. thetimes.com/comment/columni…

Today I was pleased to welcome the @f40campaign to Parliament. Pupils in our area, East Riding of Yorkshire, receive the lowest high needs funding of any local authority area. East Riding gets £999.04 per pupil, compared to £3,831.71 per pupil in the best-funded area, Camden. No child should miss out on support they need simply because of where they live. The Government must urgently address this scandal and end this inequality. I will continue to work with f40 to ensure pupils are treated fairly, and funding is allocated equally across all of England.

Having worked inside the Treasury, led the CBI, and chaired major banks, his verdict is damning: it was barely a Budget at all.

In memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for the freedoms we enjoy in Britain today, I placed a cross in the Speaker's Garden of Remembrance in Parliament on behalf of my constituents in Goole and Pocklington. We shall remember them.

We need to spend more on defence, but using creative accounting to keep that investment off the national debt is entirely the wrong approach. John Healey should know better. He was Financial Secretary to the Treasury under Gordon Brown - the Chancellor who deliberately expanded PFI to hide Government borrowing and take it off the balance sheet. In plain English, that trick saw the taxpayer pay over £5.50 for every £1 of actual infrastructure built. Labour are about to repeat that wheeze to deceive the public and saddle future generations with the bill. Our Armed Forces need real investment, not Treasury smoke and mirrors. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

Two of the traders convicted of LIBOR manipulation, Jay Merchant and Christian Bittar, were deported from the UK and barred from returning. Earlier this month, the Court of Appeal threw out their convictions leaving the reason for their deportation completely invalid. Unfortunately, the deportation order will remain in place until it is removed by the Home Office. Both men have applied to have the order revoked, and I asked the Home Office earlier to look into their cases and respond as soon as possible, not imposing any further undeserved punishment on these men.

As Chief Economic Adviser and Permanent Secretary to the Treasury from the beginning of Thatcher to the End of Blair, he helped shape 20 budgets across seven chancellors, and at least three major economic crises. This is a short clip from the full episode.

On Thursday, a historic market cross in one of my constituency's town centres was demolished. The cross has long been an important centrepiece of the town. I am in contact with the town council to establish how this can be resolved swiftly.

Our special forces are some of the best in the world, yet their morale is being weakened and their effectiveness blunted by baseless, bogus, and pernicious lawfare. Today, I asked the Prime Minister what he is going to do about it 👇🏻

Last weekend, @thetimes reported how, for nearly three years, the MoD police pursued our Special Forces based on bogus allegations by our enemies. This was done while those soldiers were in the middle of operations protecting our nation. In the words of one of the soldiers, they were treated as “not members of a professional army but a criminal organisation”. Although these cases were ultimately proven baseless, the prolonged investigations destroyed morale, and all affected soldiers have since left the regiment. Nobody wants to put soldiers above the law, but soldiers must know that the Government has their backs when they are deployed. thetimes.com/uk/defence/arti…

In 1987, at Loughgall, the SAS stopped eight murderous IRA killers. The actions of the SAS that day no doubt saved innocent lives. Yet now, decades after the event, our brave veterans face relentless legal persecution. Here's what really happened on that day in 1987👇🏻

Our Special Forces are among the best in the world. If we continue to harangue them through the courts on the word of our enemies, we will cripple their ability to defend us. I raised this point with @JuliaHB1 on @TalkTV earlier today.

Ahead of this week's debates on the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill I went to speak to some of our brave veterans outside Parliament. We must ensure that those who fought to defend the peace in Northern Ireland are themselves protected from vexatious legal processes.

Today, the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill is returning to the House of Commons. Through this Bill, Labour is putting Dublin at the heart of efforts to investigate the Troubles, despite its deeply troubling record of failures, collusion, and unanswered questions. Meanwhile, British veterans face the prospect of investigations for the rest of their lives. This is a grotesque inversion of justice. The victims deserve the truth. Our veterans deserve justice. Neither should be sacrificed for political convenience. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Sometimes Labour cannot even get the most straightforward things right. Their management of the UK grant scheme supporting farming - the Sustainable Farming Incentive - has been, frankly, dreadful. Last month, applications opened for the latest round of the fund. The allocated £253 million ran out after just six hours, leaving thousands of farmers unable to access vital funds. The Government must act to support farming in the UK and be clear with farmers and farming communities about what happens next and how it will address the issues with this round of funding. theguardian.com/environment/…

The failures of the Sustainable Farming Incentive were entirely foreseeable. On multiple occasions, the @Conservatives and the @NFUtweets warned the Government that the total funding was not enough to meet demand and that allocating funding on a first-come, first-served basis would shut applicants out and reduce the opportunity to deliver any sort of quality control for applications.

If the Prime Minister is serious about delivering for every part of the UK, his Government must do better to meaningfully engage with and support farmers and the rural communities who have been badly let down by the failure of the Sustainable Farming Incentive.
