Today, I participated in the Circular Water Economy Conference 2026 at @UCYOfficial, highlighting the importance of a source-to-sea approach to water resilience. 💧🌊
Water resilience does not stop on land. What happens upstream affects our rivers, coastal waters and ocean.
We must connect water management with marine protection through circular solutions, water reuse and innovation.
The European Ocean Pact, the upcoming European Ocean Act and the forthcoming Ocean and Water Research and Innovation Strategy will help strengthen this integrated approach, connecting research, policy and investment to deliver practical solutions.
Our goal is clear: secure water resources, healthy marine ecosystems and a sustainable, competitive blue economy.

From meeting rooms to the waterfront in Malta! 🇲🇹
Alongside this year’s #EMFAF Monitoring Committee meeting, we visited small-scale fishers in Marsaxlokk benefiting from 🇪🇺 support to improve safety at sea and preserve their catches. 🎣
⚓️ In Marsascala, we saw an important project upgrading fisheries infrastructure.
A great opportunity to see first-hand how 🇪🇺#EMFAF investments bring concrete benefits to fishers and coastal communities.

Agreement reached on 2027 Baltic Sea fishing opportunities.
Catch limits rise for sprat (+44%) and central Baltic herring (+71%). Cod and western herring remain restricted to by-catches, with an exception for small-scale coastal herring fishers.

Good news for Baltic fishers at today’s #AGRIFISH Council in Luxembourg: we have reached an agreement on 2027 fishing opportunities.
After years of hardship and sacrifice, sprat and central Baltic herring are showing signs of recovery. The efforts of our fishers are making a difference.
But the recovery is fragile. We must keep rebuilding stocks and tackle pollution and eutrophication.
Thank you to the @Ireland2026eu and Denmark (as chair of the BaltFish regional group) for their leadership and excellent work.
