ALT Green border with leaf details around a message that reads: You may have noticed that we’ve been a little quiet on here lately. Sometimes, to get over an X, you have to go no contact. Over the last couple of years, some of our community have been leaving X, and it just doesn’t feel the same without them. So, we’ve decided it’s time to focus on spreading our roots elsewhere. We will no longer be posting or moderating this channel, but our account with still be here for now. Forests are a community, and so are we. So, we hope you will continue to grow with us on our other channels, which we’ll link below. See you on the trails soon, Forestry England

🌳🐕🦺 In a UK-first, we've partnered with Luke Jones at the @CapeSpc team, to train an extraordinary detection dog, Ivor, to sniff out the destructive tree pathogen Phytophthora ramorum.
🧪 During trials, six-year-old Ivor (a cocker spaniel x labrador) achieved an impressive 89% detection rate on first attempts—proving the immense potential of detection dogs in safeguarding our woodlands.
🗨️ Dr. Heather Dun, Pathologist at Forest Research shared:
"The results have been incredibly encouraging. Detection dogs like Ivor represent an exciting new tool in the fight against pests and diseases, helping to protect our nation’s trees through enhanced biosecurity."
This pathogen poses a serious threat, causing significant damage to over 150 plant species, including larch—one of our vital timber trees. Thanks to Ivor, we're one step closer to a healthier, more resilient future for our forests. 🌱🐾
