@GotlandGAME Conference has been a great experience, SO many cool student games! Also appreciate the #workers rights in #gamedev theme; I had a lot to say about #unions, #guilds and @gcldf in my opening lecture, as well as to @svt (this is a short excerpt) svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/ost/ho…
And that's the conference. We have slides incoming, links will be posted within the hour! #ggconf19

<- but can you also subvert the mechanics that are there? #ggconf19
Q: I work in board games. All these mechanics are colonial. How on earth do we change this? How do we decolonise these mechanics?
A: That's a hard one. Can you look at other areas for mechanics. Look to non-board games for mechanics and systems. -> #ggconf19
We should grow wild, with the ideas we have locally.
There is a ton of references here. Have a root through them #ggconf19
There are ways of living with nature, rather than colonising. We can learn from those who garden naturally, referring to local plants/ideas and nurturing them. Such as these games #ggconf19
And finally - Threats
We look at the term Indiepocalypse as a thing where indie games lost the ability to earn money. But, it was actually the rise of other games that meant that the early colonisers could no longer dump a platformer with a twist and take all the money #ggconf19
And systemic challenges are not just race, but also gender. And while we say that as we are bringing more diverse people into the industry to make it better - these people are also ones who leave it faster #ggconf19
So - when we look at organising - we should organise for the system, not the individuals we know #ggconf19
But why do we look at the center of the problem. Why don’t we look at the periphery. Look at the people who are making the tools and computers that allow us to make these games/gardens #ggconf19
