In 2007, literally the only person who thought Greg Ballard would win the Indianapolis mayor’s race was Greg. I was a volunteer on that campaign. He won anyway.
Today he’s on the ballot again. This time the stakes outlast the race.
George Will wrote about him Friday, casting the Indiana secretary of state’s office as a Mount Suribachi for a Marine to plant a new party’s flag on.
It’s called the Lincoln Party. The reason for the name is better than you’d guess.
The number that matters most in Indiana tonight is a lot smaller than 50.
Why that is, and why I’m in Greg’s corner, in today’s #Monticello.

Should also be the case when influencers are paid to specifically influence Congressional or state-level legislation.
If you are being compensated to impact an outcome, policy or electoral, should be disclosed
The online influencer ecosystem has drifted far from its roots. What began as largely ideology-driven has become almost entirely financially driven.
For most of the past year, I’ve been calling for the FTC to update its guidelines so that paid political content faces the same disclosure requirements as paid promotions of commercial products: clothing, food, cosmetics, or anything else.
Right now, if someone is paid to support or oppose a candidate or political issue online, no disclosure is required.
It’s time for that to change.

Lane Kiffin did his stupid pregame walk today with Shaq, Angel Reese, Paul Skenes and Kevin Costner….currently getting his ass smoked by Alabama 31-13 with 4 minutes left….oh and Melania is there to give LSU a touch of #ETTD for good measure 🤣
Quite a few of you thought this asshole was one of the decent ones.
Congratulations to the new Chief of Staff, @StephenM.
Double down on the agenda. Too many people are demanding a change to tough policies because they were unpopular in the midterms. That’s foolish and cowardly.
The short term unpopularity of a policy does not make the policy wrong. The President’s priority should be long term benefits (like an Iran without a nuke), not short term popularity.

I can’t wait to hear public revulsion/disavowal of noxious racist Steven Miller from the handful of people who pretended to be more upset at Sarah Longwell declining to cheerlead Haley Stevens than at Mike Roger’s explicitly and exclusively racist campaign

Pandering to the base that’s led the GOP to its worst wipeout in two generations? Seems smart.
A source close to the White House tells me of @StephenM: "He is a war time consigliere, and his hiring probably sends the best possible message to the base."

I've said this over and over and over again. Florida just voted to put the same crippling flaw in its tax system that California did in 1978.
And not only will it destroy the state financially, it'll be really, really hard to ever undo. California is still suffering from Prop 13 with no end in sight.

Stephen Miller wanted to trigger a full-blown constitutional crisis by having Trump suspend the writ of habeas corpus.
Other top White House officials opposed the idea and Trump never pulled the trigger.
Now Miller is chief of staff.
Stephen Miller publicly said Trump was considering suspending habeas in May 2025.
John Yoo told me at the time that suspending habeas would provide "much stronger ground for impeachment than Trump’s first two" impeachments.
