Every night before bed we read together as a family.

Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Your community shapes you, choose wisely. My father always said, Dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres (Tell me who you hang out with, and I’ll tell you who you are). Surround yourself with people who challenge you to grow in faith, integrity, and love. My closest friends aren’t all Christian, and that’s okay. By living as a light, sharing the Gospel, and showing Jesus’ love through my actions, I pray they’ll join me on this journey to Christ. Seek friends who inspire growth, even if they don’t share your faith. Be a witness through your life, share your story, pray for them, and invite them to church or Bible study with kindness, not pressure.

Love is truth, not affirmation. Love is discipline and self-control, not indulgence. God made me as a man with desires, but true love isn’t chasing every urge, it’s devotion to my wife and daughters. As men, we must master our impulses and teach our kids to do the same. How? Through Christ, our Lord, who gives strength to live with purpose and restraint. Lead by example: show your children self-control rooted in faith, guiding them to God’s truth. Unchecked desires lead to chaos. Loving discipline builds character and honors God. Model self-control daily. Pray with your kids, teach them to seek Christ’s strength, and use phrases like “We choose what’s right, not what’s easy.”

Proverbs 13:24: “Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.” True love isn’t blind affirmation, telling kids everything they do is right. In today’s world, parents often affirm to avoid conflict, but this can leave children unguided, drifting from truth. Love is teaching right from wrong, leading them to God’s path with discipline that shapes character. Kids need clear boundaries to navigate life’s challenges. Without loving correction, bad habits take root, distancing them from God’s truth. Instead of punishment, teach resilience. Use phrases like “Practice makes better” or “When we fall, we get back up.” Gently guide with truth, showing them God’s love through consistent discipline.
