Chery is not going to make cars in Canada. We all know this.
We need to focus on Brampton Assembly and the 5 companies that already assemble cars in Canada and the hundreds of suppliers making parts and systems for them.
1000s of autoworkers are fighting to save their jobs, including in Minister Sidhu's own riding of Brampton.
Anyone who understands the auto industry knows the problem China poses to 100000s of jobs here in Canada and across NA and to the entire manufacturing industry.

Visited Cheryβs plant in China to discuss their upcoming models and hear about their plans to introduce affordable EVs to Canadians. I also discussed research and innovation theyβre doing with universities like Concordia and the University of Toronto.
Theyβre working with Canadian technology, too. Blackberryβs QNX technology will power the cars they want to bring to the Canadian market.

The courage of workers.

Not signing a bad trade deal.
Holding the line.
Because the cake has been baking.
All advice Unifor has given over the past many months.
The Trump wipeout has strengthened our hand.
We must continue to push for the best and right trade deal for Canadian workers.
It started with @NYCMayor!
Hope that is.

This morning, Unifor members held a solidarity action in Kitchener, Ont., supporting @saintgobain members in Plattsville on strike since July 24 and to bring attention to scab labour at this plant. This follows last weekβs rally in Ottawa to support these workers.

As a union we understand this.
Being able to walk away from a bad deal is critical to how we make progress.
Sometimes the strongest negotiating position is being willing to walk away from a bad deal.
If Trump knows Canada will sign anything just to announce an agreement, what incentive does he have to offer better terms?
Canadians elected a prime minister to defend their interests. Keep negotiating, expand our options and judge any deal by what it delivers. A signature at any price is surrender dressed up as progress.

Trump boasting about being close to a trade deal with Canada says two things, @Lanampayne tells @CTVNews. βOne, he actually needs a trade deal with Canada, and two, if he doesn't get one, he gets to blame us that he doesn't have such a deal.β

Dear @bankofcanada
WTH!
Driving up costs for workers and businesses during a trade war that isn't their fault neither reduces inflation nor deals with energy costs.
It just causes more economic hardship and pain.
Not to mention this is the last thing the Cdn economy needs.
Unbelievable.
Workers already underwater because of this punishing trade war.
Workers and families being hit with high energy costs because of a war in Iran.
And BofC is adding to the economic pain by raising interest rates as if that will change the price of energy. π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
We have increased our interest rate to 2.50%.
