Cruel night for Brooklyn. Late in the 4th, virtually no chance at winning until Mikel Brown Jr. stepped in — 16 points in the 4th/OT and knocked down a ton of clutch buckets.
Minutes restriction. Sat out Sunday.
Made an error in the final seconds and Jayson Tatum made him pay.

Landed and went straight to the gym. When you have young players, you need to allow them to play EARLY, OFTEN & thru MISTAKES. Thats where you see the growth. #Growth

That Mikel Brown Jr. game was the ultimate rookie experience.
Rough first three quarters — couldn’t buy a bucket plus some defensive lapses.
Brilliant 4th quarter and OT. True star flashes including the 3PM to send it to OT.
In OT, he got so many good looks that went in and out. Mistake at the end.
Still, can’t feel anything but stoked about Mikel Brown Jr. as a Nets fan after watching that game in its totality.

Look, man, that was a rough one for the #Nets. Just wrapped up our 90+ minute postgame show breaking everything down, and I have a lot of thoughts.
First off, I don’t blame Mikel Brown Jr. for that loss. The Nets wouldn’t have even been in that position without him. It’s a tough mistake, especially for a rookie, but you keep your head up, learn from it, and move on. Brooklyn had plenty of opportunities to win that game long before the final possession.
I’ve also been really impressed with how he’s handled everything since, both with his tweet and what he said to reporters afterward. That’s the kind of maturity you want to see from a young player, especially after a moment like that.
My biggest takeaway from tonight regarding Mikel? I think he’s going to be a damn good player in clutch situations. He’s already shown a willingness to embrace those moments, and his ability to impact games in so many different ways is incredibly valuable.
There’s a lot to be frustrated about with this Nets team right now, but Mikel is giving us plenty of reasons to be excited about his future.

This the accountability I want to see. Take it on the chin, head high, shoulders back & LEARN from these moments. I fucking love it, we needed this. 🤫
Mikel Brown Jr. on attempting the layup in the final seconds up one rather than pulling the ball out:
“I did see the open lane, and I thought I had a layup, but the ball was kind of already slipping out of my hands, and PG was already coming towards my right side. So I felt like if I didn't go up with it, I kind of was gonna fall out of bounds. So that was my last resort, in all honesty, but I can't make an excuse. There's a lot of plays down the stretch that I messed up on, that I take full accountability for, and I'm gonna be better.
Was it discussed before the play to dribble the ball out?
“It was discussed to just try to get it in, and try to kill time. That definitely was discussed, but like I said, it's just mistakes down the stretch that I just can't make. I just can't do that."

Jordi Fernandez on the final possession of the game:
"We're not supposed to switch there because we wanted to keep a bigger body on him. We did switch. He bumped contest and he got a shot that he can make... We wanted to maintain the matchup on Tatum with Noah Clowney because he's big... And then he bumped and then he shot over. And then Keon, who was on the ball, was supposed to track and contest that or help a little bit because we knew that most likely the shot was for him.”

The sample size is small, but it’s clear the Nets are a far better team with Mikel Brown Jr. on the floor. Things fall into place when the floor dictator is leading the ship and it’s clear he’s that guy. Easy to forget he’s a rookie.
