Our One City Mentoring Initiative kicked off our very first Fire Friday! Fire Fridays will take place monthly in several of our elementary schools. Individual Fire Stations have also adopted their neighboring schools with the intent of mentoring small groups .

Did you know that the Southeast region of the a city doesn't have a sponsored youth basketball league? A Coach's interest meeting will be held tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the Achievable Dream Tennis Center, 1300 Ivy Avenue, to start a league for boys and girls, ages 7-15.

Each year, for STAND Month, our NNPS Central Office staff has demonstrated their commitment to bullying prevention by participating in Blue Up Day on the first Monday in October in recognition of World Day of Bullying Prevention!

Flourish Empowerment Program champions attended a Fireside Chat with Virginia Speaker of the House, Don Scott, who gave a moving testimony and strong advice about effective leadership! The students attended guests of the 20 Pearls Foundation.

This morning, @CityofNN top leaders, Mayor Phillip Jones, @NewportNewsPD Chief, Steve Drew, NN Fire Chief, Wesley Rogers, and @nnschools Superintendent, Dr. Michele Mitchell spent the morning with Sanford Elementary School students in the RISE! Male Empowerment Program.

Today is World Mental Health Day! Join our middle and high school students and families for the first Family Empowerment Forum. "Your Mental Health Matters," on Thursday, October 17th at @HeritageHS . Doors will open for dinner at 5:00pm for this free event.
