We're proud to welcome filmmaker and content creator Omar Farooq as our newest UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador! From Bangladesh to Jordan, South Sudan and beyond, Omar has spent nearly a decade using the power of storytelling to bring refugee voices and experiences to millions around the world. Since 2017, he's supported UNHCR, turning powerful human stories into empathy, solidarity and action. We're excited to begin this new chapter together, inspiring even more people to support refugees and people forced to flee.

He doesn't know it yet… but one day, thousands in France will read his story, in his own words. Forced to flee Darfur, Karam Hassan made a perilous journey through Egypt and across the Mediterranean, before seeking asylum in France. Today, he is a manager at L'Oréal in Paris, a L’Oréal Ambassador and the founder and president of the association La Voix des Réfugiés. In his book "Un rêve plus loin", he tells his story. Every refugee carries a story and talents. With a warm welcome and the right opportunities, they can rebuild their lives and make valuable contributions to the communities that host them.

Protection is about more than finding safety. It is also about having the opportunity to work and provide for your family. For 75 years, the Refugee Convention has unlocked that possibility for refugees around the world.

Dakar, meet Lourance! 🥋 She put in the work, earned her place and is ready to make it count. Kenya is cheering you on! 🇰🇪
When Lourance heard her name for #Dakar2026, she cried. She had trained for less time than many of her peers, but belief, discipline and hard work earned her a place in Dakar. Her journey is proof that beginnings do not define limits. Watch, share and cheer her on. 💥 @jojdakar2026 @Refugees @RefugeesOlympic @UNHCR_Kenya @RefugeesAfrica #Dakar2026 #YOG #RefugeeOlympicTeam #WithRefugees #SportForProtection #InclusionThroughSport

Same buildings. Same classes. A very different journey to get there. Odile's education began in a refugee camp in Rwanda. She won a DAFI scholarship to study in Kigali. Now she's in Oxford, determined to bring her education home.

The Refugee Convention is more than a legal document. It is a commitment to protect people forced to flee, so they can begin to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.

Another tragic reminder that people continue to risk everything in search of safety. At least 12 lives lost, including a baby, off Lesvos and Samos. We cannot become desensitized to tragedies at sea. Every life lost is one too many. unhcr.org/europe/news/press-…

A powerful earthquake has struck Panama, damaging homes, schools and critical infrastructure. Families have been left in urgent need of support. UNHCR is on the ground, supporting the Panamanian government and working with partners to deliver emergency relief, including tents, blankets and other essential items to help affected communities. Together, we can ensure that no one faces crises like this alone. Please help with a donation: unh.cr/VAQS8a

When it comes education, a good teacher makes all the difference. This was the case for Leila when she was a student in Dadaab, and it's just as true for Leila’s students in Dadaab today. When teachers have what they need to deliver, refugee students get the quality education they deserve.

For 75 years, we have promised to stand with people forced to flee. To protect their rights, help them find safety, and support them in rebuilding their lives. We will keep that promise for as long as we are needed.
