ICE agents’ attack on US citizen Ricardo Gonzalez in North Long Beach was horrific and unconstitutional. Senators @SenAdamSchiff, @SenAlexPadilla, and @RepRobertGarcia joined me in a letter to DHS, demanding an immediate investigation into the ICE agents’ behavior. We can’t let ICE agents go after people just because they’re Latino. We need answers and accountability for the people of Long Beach.

Grateful to serve the #HarborGateway community where I grew up! We brought together our neighbors for a free hot meal as we discussed our work in Congress and the district. It was a great way to bring our community together so they could ask questions and raise their concerns — all while enjoying burgers and fries!

I am relieved to hear Brad Lander has been released after he was detained by Israeli forces in the West Bank, for having helped Palestinian farmers harvest olives for their annual olive harvest.  However, other Americans — including rabbis and volunteers — are still in custody. They must be released immediately. Peacefully helping Palestinian families harvest their land is not a crime. It should not lead to an arrest.  The rights and safety of Palestinians, as well as of those that stand alongside them, must be respected. nytimes.com/2026/10/21/nyreg…

Today, my office was notified by law enforcement that a letter, containing a suspicious substance, was intercepted before it was delivered to my district office in Long Beach. The safety of my staff is a priority, and I am thankful that law enforcement and postal inspectors acted quickly.  This is part of a broader pattern of attacks across California and the country to strike fear into Congress Members and Senators. My team and I will continue our work to serve and assist the people of California’s 44th Congressional District.  Thank you to the Capitol Police, USPS, and USPIS for protecting our office and our communities.

ICE can’t run lawless through our neighborhoods harassing, assaulting, and arresting anyone they want just because people are Latino. This was reportedly a U.S. citizen, so they clearly don’t care who they go after. Being Latino in Long Beach or LA is not a crime. These ICE agents need to be held accountable.

Thank you to all our families who came to our check presentation to celebrate this new funding I secured for Normandale Park, and to hear how the upgrades to the recreation center and the new LAPD substation will make this park more accessible and safer for all.
