New post: Over the next year there a series of European elections where the radical right could gain more power than ever. How will this play out? We have 30 years of evidence that tells us they will struggle. Obituries for liberalism are premature. samf.substack.com/p/the-stra…

And @LawDavF wrote about Trump's latest deeply unhelpful intervention in Ukraine, what damage it has done, and the role the Europeans should be playing. samf.substack.com/p/ukraine-…

This week on the substack... I wrote about the European radical right in power, and what that tells us about how a Marine Le Pen presidency would play out. samf.substack.com/p/the-stra…

Next week we have our most newsworthy interview yet, budget analysis and more on the midterms. Possibly something on the Israeli elections too. Busy few weeks coming up.

And we had a guest post with exclusive polling on how views of AI are affecting voting behaviour on both sides of the Atlantic. samf.substack.com/p/ai-as-th…

It would be nice if the most powerful man in the world wasn't completely delusional.

My latest post attempts to make sense of a difficult time in US-Ukraine relations, in which the dysfunctions of the Trump administration were on full display. Trump’s claims that Putin was ready to make concessions was shown again to be make-believe. (£/free trial) samf.substack.com/p/ukraine-…?

New post: We have exclusive new polling from @focaldataHQ - looking at how views of AI are developing and how it's affecting voting. They look at why the US debate is so much more polarised by party than here - and whether we could go the same way. samf.substack.com/p/ai-as-th…

One of my favourite charts from the post showing where US voters are on speeding up versus slowing down AI development compared to their perception of parties. You can see why the Democrats are talking about it a lot.

This is just one of the problems Le Pen would have in power...
Marine Le Pen is favourite to win the French presidency, more so after last week's violence. Using the history of radical right victories in Europe I assessed what her government would look like and what barriers would it run into. samf.substack.com/p/the-stra…

A problem all radical right parties tend to have. Reform included.
There is a sociological component to this, which is MLP's split electorate between the angry post industrial workers of the North and the rich retirees of the South. Every financial pledge she makes is designed to simultaneously appeal to 2 irreconciable groups.
