Longest active winning streak as starting QB:
JJ McCarthy 5 straight
Kyler Murray 5
co-sign
Many of my followers are saying, "We're 6-0! Nothing needs to change!"
I take the exact opposite approach: *Because* the Vikings are 6-0, they need to make a change at quarterback.
It's time for the Vikings' experiment with Kyler Murray to end.
The Vikings have the league's best defense and best special teams. Those occurrences don't happen often and almost never simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the Vikings offense is among the league's worst, if not the worst. Its 10 touchdowns are the fewest by a 6-0 team in 94 years, the first year after the forward pass was legalized in the NFL. During Minnesota's 11-game winning streak, kicker Will Reichard has contributed more points than the offense, defense, and returners combined.
The Vikings rank 29th in passing yards and 31st in touchdowns scored (thanks, Titans!).
Today's Vikings offense is very unlikely to run the gauntlet of playoff teams to reach the Super Bowl. Minnesota will almost certainly squander this generational opportunity if they don't improve their quarterback play. And they may frustrate Justin Jefferson enough to lose him in the offseason.
There was offseason optimism that Kevin O'Connell could work some magic on Murray to revive a career on life support. But Murray's sample size has grown big enough to draw firm conclusions. The Minnesota version of Kyler Murray isn't different from the version in Arizona last year when he was benched for Jacoby Brissett.
On Sunday, Murray had all of his weapons healthy and faced a battered Colts defense missing three cornerbacks, including Sauce Gardner. Murray completed 14 passes for 150 yards and 1 score.
The only positives for Murray are his lack of interceptions and his periodic scrambles for first downs. But that's not nearly enough to balance the scales against his passing deficiencies.
Can we hope that Kyler Murray improves? I guess, but I'm reminded of the axiom, "Hope is not a strategy."
Carson Wentz represents a minor upgrade over Murray, but not enough to win a Super Bowl, even with a great defense.
It's not easy to improve the quarterback position during the season. But it's not impossible. The Giants appear to have just done it.
Nolan Teasley should be hesitant to spend the draft capital he'll want next April--his first NFL draft as general manager. But he should also realize that the 2026 Vikings are in a remarkable position that simply requires functional play from its quarterback.
It appears there's no single super-power team in the NFL. The 2026 Vikings have a real chance to reach the Super Bowl, but only if they find a quarterback to hoist the offense out of the cellar.

This is actually exactly how McCarthy was playing over his final four games of last season.
And in the 2nd half against Chicago + Detroit last year.
The gap between how people view McCarthy -- and his actual talent level on the football field = a hilariously wide gap.
Man what a time! πΆ π πΏοΈ

I understand PJ Fleck has had his ups and downs. I understand the Gophers laid an egg last week against Purdue. But if, like me, youβre 48 or younger, theyβve never beaten their three biggest rivals all at the same time in your lifetime until today. Choose joy.

I saw a post about how our children will remember the little rituals we create, the songs we play, the meals we cook, and how safe they felt being themselves. And it made me think about what a huge responsibility it is to create a home inside someoneβs memory. What a privilege to have chosen this. I think thatβs what parenting is. Understanding the weight of the responsibility and taking it on proudly.
