Going for a walk in India often feels like a video game.
On the footpath you're dodging:
- Holes
- Hoardings
- Construction
- Electrical boxes
And when you finally give up and hit the road you're brushing shoulders with autos, wrong-side drivers, buses and water tankers.

Your brain deletes most of your ordinary days. It keeps almost every minute of a night alone in a foreign city. What's happening there is actually one of the more beautiful things about how your nervous system works.
Your brain is a prediction machine. When it can predict everything, like your commute, your kitchen, your same six streets, it stops recording. That's why whole months at home just vanish. But put yourself somewhere it can't predict anything and the system flips. Every sign, every smell, every crosswalk registers as new information. Dopamine tags all of it as worth keeping. This is why one week abroad feels longer in memory than a month at home. Your brain literally kept more of it.
The second thing happening is quieter. At home, some part of you is always tracking how you're being perceived. Your boss, your friends, the people who knew you at 22. In a city where nobody knows your name, that entire system goes offline.
And when it goes offline, the bandwidth doesn't disappear. It gets redirected inward.
That's the "realizing how far you've come" part. Your brain is finally recording again, the self-monitoring is off, and you're far enough away from your life to see the whole shape of it at once.
You spend years too close to your own life to see it. Then one night you're crossing a street on the other side of the world, and you finally have enough distance to look.

Me preparing my girl dinner trying to hit target macros
Imagine a restaurant chain called “Macros.”
You walk in, tap your target macros into a kiosk — protein, carbs, fats, calories — and choose your preferred ingredients: chicken breast, rice, potatoes, greek yogurt, eggs, vegetables, etc.
The system instantly designs the optimal meal to hit your numbers exactly.
Then a cook behind the counter assembles it Chipotle-style, weighing every ingredient on a scale down to the gram.
Fast food for people who track their calories.
@DeanTTraining why aren’t you doing this?

The Indian salaried class has been methodically stripped of every single inflation hedge available to it, one budget at a time.
You tried crypto. They slapped a 30% flat tax on gains, allowed no set-off of losses, and added 1% TDS on transfers.
You tried equities. Budget 2024 raised STCG from 15% to 20%, raised LTCG from 10% to 12.5%, increased STT on F&O, and also killed indexation for most other long-term capital gains.
You thought fine, I’ll diversify some savings abroad through LRS. They put 20% TCS on remittances above 10 lakhs for investments abroad.
You tried Sovereign Gold Bonds, because surely a government-issued, government-backed gold hedge would be the one clean instrument they would not mess with. Then Budget 2026 came along and removed the capital gains exemption for secondary market buyers.
And now the final insult.
The Prime Minister has publicly asked you to avoid buying physical gold for a year in the “national interest,” because gold imports use foreign exchange.
So let me get this straight. A middle class wagie earning in depreciating rupees, watching FD rates hover around 6.5% while real life inflation keeps eating his purchasing power, has now been told:
Crypto is taxed like a vice.
Equities are more expensive to hold and exit.
Foreign diversification gets hit with TCS.
SGBs are being wound down and tax-narrowed.
Buying physical gold is now unpatriotic.
Basically, every single exit from rupee depreciation has been systematically curtailed. You are expected to hold your savings in instruments the government controls, at returns the government sets, for a currency the government is rapidly inflating away.
Does this sound like Amrit Kaal to you?

If you are building an org, always hire thick skinned folks who can take direct feedback and bitter truth well.
Blunt Feedback is the breakfast of champions.
It is also the kryptonite of the weak.

This is probably the best essay on Dubai I have ever read. And it absolutely gets the place right. Fantastic read. I wish more Indian cities were like Dubai than Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai or Kolkata. We need less emotion, more planning.

My friend just got placed on Day 1 at IITM with a 60 LPA package.
People love to criticise JEE, but they forget it’s actually the simplest path in the long run. Crack it and you get four years of clarity, structure, and opportunity. Miss it, end up in a tier-3 college, and suddenly you’re juggling DSA, dev, communication skills, side projects, and five other things, just to land 4 LPA.
Sometimes the “hard” thing is actually the easiest route forward. Study hard, that’s it. people who have genuinely prepared for JEE would relate!

The older I get, the more I realize you can reinvent yourself as many times as you need. New habits. New mindsets. New standards. New people. New career. You’re never stuck. You’re allowed to change. Today, tomorrow, and as many times as it takes to create the life you want.

fundamentally believe the solution to the loneliness crisis is framed wrong
it’s not just about making friends
it’s about living a life where you feel the possibility of connection is all around you
- smile at the barista
- chat with a stranger in the grocery store line
- text old friends
- call your parents
- find strangers to play volleyball with
friendships are inherently transient - people move, people get busy, priorities change.
make it so that you feel connected to humans no matter who specifically is in your life at that moment
