Those who default to people-pleasing to cope, to feel safe, and to be loved and accepted, so often quiet their own needs and desires for the sake of making others happy and comfortable. But eventually, that self sacrifice catches up and can bring up frustration, resentment, and a disconnection to ourselves. Unlearning people-pleasing takes time and compassion, it can mean losing friends while strengthening relationships with others (including our relationship with ourselves).
We invite you to read “I Kept Saying Yes Until I Couldn't Tell What I Wanted” by Yahya Kasozi at twloha.com/blog/people-pleas….

ALT I wish I could say I figured it all out and stopped people-pleasing. I haven't. I still catch myself wanting to make everyone happy. I still sometimes say yes too quickly and wonder afterward why I agreed to something I didn't really want to do. The difference now is that I notice it. I can pause. I can ask myself what I want before asking what everyone else wants.
“Healing isn’t about finding one solution and sticking to it forever—it’s about adapting, learning, and growing. I reach out. I ask for help. I refuse to let shame silence me.
For years, I bottled up my emotions, mistaking anger for strength. Now, I see that anger was protecting me. But I no longer need to fight the world—I need to fight for myself.” twloha.com/blog/healing-isnt…
We know slowing down is easier said than done, and a lot of times it’s out of our control. You are not alone.

“It’s okay to fall. It’s okay to grieve what could have been. It’s okay to struggle. It’s okay to have days when simply existing feels like a victory. But it’s also okay to keep going—even if, some days, my only reason is sheer stubbornness. Because even spite is a form of survival.” twloha.com/blog/healing-isnt…
“I didn’t just accept the first therapist I found—I interviewed them, ensuring they were the right fit for my journey. I explored different treatments, some of which didn’t work, and some that changed my life. Therapy became a space where I could unravel my pain and, over time, learn how to live alongside it instead of being consumed by it.” twloha.com/blog/healing-isnt…

“One of the hardest but most necessary steps I took was leaving my hometown. Sometimes, healing requires distance—from the places that hurt you and from the people who make you feel small. I had to set boundaries with family members who weren’t safe for my mental health. That was painful. But I knew that to survive, I had to prioritize my well-being, even if it meant stepping away from people I once loved.” twloha.com/blog/healing-isnt…

“I am a survivor. A survivor of childhood trauma. A survivor of domestic and intimate partner violence. A survivor of sexual assault.
Suicidal ideation and self-harm entered my life when I was just 11 years old. Today, I am in a much better place, but that doesn’t mean every day is easy." twloha.com/blog/healing-isnt…
