That's a wrap! 🎓✨ The 2nd UCU Research Symposium has officially closed after 3 days of bold ideas. Today's takeaway: Universities must teach beyond the classroom — resilience, attitude, and real marketplace skills. Research must leave the shelves and drive Uganda's growth. Thank you to all who made it possible. This is just the beginning. #UCUResearchSymposium @UCUniversity @UCUResearch

This hits home at the Honours College. Research that stops at graduation has already failed its purpose. At @UCU_Honours, we are raised to pursue knowledge that transforms and serves society. Thank you, Dr. Nicholas Mukisa, for this timely challenge at the #UCUResearchSymposium
ICYMI yesterday (Day 2) "Students- if you do research for the sake of graduation, the you have failed the motive for [authentic] research. Your research must be intended to impact society." #UCUResearchSymposium

Renewable energy solutions should start with understanding community needs, not simply installing generic solar equipment. By examining how communities produce, process, cook, store and access food, research can help identify appropriate technologies that support sustainable food systems. This was the focus of Dr. Jan Bekkering’s work, “Appropriate Renewable Energy Technologies and Systems for a Sustainable Food Supply – A Community Research Approach.” #UCUResearchSymposium | @UCUniversity | @UCUResearch

WHY DO PEOPLE REFUSE VACCINES? IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE VACCINE.* 💉 Prof. Kukunda Elizabeth presented a powerful study at the 2nd UCU Research Symposium: _The influence of conspiracist ideation on vaccine hesitancy in Uganda: Lessons from COVID-19 Vaccination_ Key findings from 1,201 respondents: - 56% held strong conspiracy beliefs — rising to 84.4% among those unlikely to be vaccinated - Healthcare workers were the most trusted source (62.7%), government among the least (24.0%) - Men endorsed conspiracies more, but women who held them were more likely to refuse the vaccine - These beliefs also shaped parents' opposition to vaccinating their children Lesson: To fight hesitancy, we must fight misinformation — and let trusted messengers, especially healthcare workers, lead. #UCUResearchSymposium @UCUResearch @UCUniversity
