“Do not just wait for opportunities; use your knowledge and creativity to create them.” @Rwanda_Edu Minister Joseph Nsengimana challenged nearly 5,000 graduates at #URGraduation2026 to turn their knowledge into practical solutions, create opportunities for themselves and others, and contribute to Rwanda’s development. He reminded them that true success is measured not only by personal achievement, but also by the positive difference they make in people’s lives.

All degrees were conferred by our Chancellor, Patricia L. Campbell. “You have completed your studies, and you, your family, friends, lecturers, and mentors are proud of your achievements,” she said at #URGraduation2026. She also encouraged graduates to make the most of their opportunities, keep learning, and use their knowledge to improve the lives of their families, communities, and country.

Addressing the congregation at #URGraduation2026, our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayihur Didas, urged graduates to step into the world with pride in UR’s name and legacy. “The world is changing at a breathtaking pace, driven by rapid technological shifts. Do not fear this change; lead it. Adapt and readapt, upskill, and always strive to stay relevant,” he said. He also encouraged graduates to turn their learning into practical solutions and drive innovation in their communities.

Today's @ARUA_News 4th Annual Distinguished Public Lecture featured the presentation of Prof. Leon Mutesa, under the theme "Innovations and Capacity Building in Biomanufacturing to Address Health System Gaps in Africa" . Prof Mutesa highlighted the importance of research, innovation and local medicine production in strengthening Africa’s health systems. The event also marked the launch of research profiles for 23 ARUA member universities, highlighting opportunities to strengthen PhD training, promote gender inclusion in research and deepen collaboration among African universities to address the continent’s health and development challenges.

The ARUA Deputy Vice-Chancellors’ Meeting & 4th Annual Distinguished Public Lectures underway! Today, Vice Chancellor Prof. Kayihura D. Muganga officially opened the @ARUA_News meeting, bringing together representatives from 23 African universities to discuss research and innovation, doctoral studies, and collaborative initiatives. Participants also toured the College of Science and Technology, exploring its science and innovation facilities. Tomorrow, the programme continues with the 4th Annual Distinguished Public Lectures, featuring Prof. Leon Mutesa, who will deliver a lecture on “Innovation and Capacity Building in Biomanufacturing to Address Health System Gaps in Africa.”

Today, Dr. Antonel Olckers, founder of @DNAbiotec and President of the African Forensic Sciences Academy (AFSA), shared insights from her journey from academia to entrepreneurship in an inspiring lecture themed “DNAbiotec – From Concept to Profit.” She explored how scientific research and knowledge can be transformed into market-ready solutions that address real-world challenges, drive innovation and create meaningful impact.

We officially entered into partnership with TI MEDTECH PTE Ltd, a #Singapore-based medical technology, to advance biomedical engineering, eHealth and innovation. An MoU signed today will support our projects under the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and e-Health in transforming research into market-ready products and startups through mentorship, funding opportunities and industry collaboration. The engagement aligns with efforts facilitated by @RwandaSingapore High Commissioner Innocent B. Muhizi who witnessed the signing to strengthen Rwanda Singapore partnerships in investment, knowledge exchange and technology-driven innovation.

This afternoon, we welcomed members of the PASET [@PasetRsif] Governing Council as a host institution of the partnership. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase PASET’s impact, highlight achievements, and discuss the strategic role of African universities in advancing science, technology and innovation. The delegation was led by @Rwanda_Edu Minister, Joseph Nsengimana, and included senior delegates from Senegal, Nigeria, Tanzania and Mozambique. The visit also provided an opportunity to reflect on PASET’s impact, including its support for PhD studies, research activities and innovative projects that contribute to addressing community challenges and finding locally relevant solutions.
