Microdramas are having a moment as this format pushes what short-form storytelling can be with quick episodes, twists and cliffhangers. Our Asia-Pacific team has been on the ground with @YouTubeCreators, partners and media, capturing the momentum driving this boom.
In the first half of 2026, microdramas on @YouTube surpassed 6.5 billion views, with watch time in APAC growing by over 70% year-over-year. With Shorts series, creators can now build full seasons right on YouTube - Japan’s @gokko5club is already leaning in.
APAC is giving us an early look at where serialized storytelling is heading. The next hit could start with a creator in Manila, Seoul or Jakarta and reach a global audience. Our job is to build the stage for it.

By using @YouTube's live tools, iconic broadcasters like the BBC can build deep, authentic rapport, bringing global communities together to learn, discuss, and follow history as it happens.
