Manchester United Forever

🚨NEW: By the time of Ten Hag’s exit, Ashworth was in the building and helping to draw up a list of candidates for Ratcliffe alongside Wilcox and Omar Berrada. Berrada was aware City might go for Ruben Amorim to succeed Pep Guardiola, due to Amorim’s relationship with Hugo Viana, who was to join City as sporting director. Ratcliffe met Amorim and was enamoured, quickly becoming convinced the Portuguese was the man for the job. Wilcox held reservations about Amorim’s use of a back three but got on board, with Berrada and Ratcliffe keen. According to sources, Amorim said he would adapt in time. Ashworth shared concerns over changing to a head coach with a different system mid-season and put forward alternatives. One of them was Eddie Howe. This difference of opinion, as well as other issues with Ratcliffe, in part led to Ashworth’s departure that December, just six months after taking the role. Wilcox was then promoted to director of football. Berrada, having worked at City at the same time as Wilcox between 2012 and 2023, advocated for his promotion. #MUFC [@TheAthleticFC]

🚨NEW: A recruitment source on Manchester United’s summer transfer business: “How can you spend £160million ($215m) on three average midfielders instead of signing just one top-class player who could transform the whole team?” #MUFC [@TheAthletic]

🚨NEW: Several Manchester United players share Lisandro Martínez’s frustrations with Jason Wilcox and the club’s summer transfer strategy. Some players also believe Wilcox lacks authority and planning in crucial moments. #MUFC [@TheAthletic]

🚨NEW: Before the FA Cup final win against Man City, Ten Hag was under major pressure and Jason Wilcox and others involved put forward several candidates as possible replacements. One person Wilcox spoke highly of was Russell Martin, whom he had appointed the previous summer in his role as Southampton’s director of football. Martin led Southampton to promotion to the PL in 2023-24 via the Championship play-offs. #MUFC [@TheAthleticFC]

🚨JUST IN: Some people in football believe Jason Wilcox’s relationship with Omar Berrada was the KEY FACTOR behind him getting a job at Manchester United. Berrada also supported Wilcox’s promotion to director of football, believing he could become United’s answer to Txiki Begiristain. #MUFC [@lauriewhitwell, @TheAthleticFC]

🚨📆 Throwback: Manchester United 7-1 AS Roma at Old Trafford in 2007! 🤯❤️ Michael Carrick scored TWICE that night, including two absolute BEAUTIES! One of the most MAGICAL European nights in Old Trafford history. 🙏🔴 #MUFC

🚨🗣️ Paolo Di Canio on Ruben Amorim: “He’s doing [at Milan] what he wanted to do at Manchester United, but wasn’t ALLOWED to FINISH.”

🚨My starting lineup for tomorrow’s game against AS Roma! I DON’T want to see Harry Maguire or Lisandro Martínez starting at centre-back again tomorrow. I want to see the FUTURE of this football club [Yoro & Heaven] playing together at the back. Kobbie Mainoo comes BACK into the starting XI. I really think we need his quality and composure in midfield. Up front, I’d keep things UNCHANGED, with Cunha, Bruno and Amad playing behind Mbeumo. We wasted SO MANY good chances in the first half against Chelsea, we just need to start taking them! #MUFC

🚨📹 WATCH: What happend to this verson of Amad Diallo?! 😭💔 We DESPERATELY need this Amad back. ❤️ #MUFC

🚨JUST IN: Key figures at Manchester United see Unai Emery as the IDEAL manager to lead the club into the FUTURE! Emery is highly appreciated within the hierarchy as a potential long-term replacement for Michael Carrick. #MUFC [@FabrizioRomano]

🚨🗣️ Kobbie Mainoo: "I've been at this club for a long time and know there will be ups and down. You expect bumps, but the best thing about them is you're to bounce back from them. In these tough times you can't expect the fans 100,000% of the time to be happy and cheering when we're not putting out results.. And we OWE it to them to put the results out there for them to cheer again." #MUFC

🚨🗣️ Michael Carrick on Lisandro Martinez and his commitment to the club: "Nah, I've got no concerns about commitment at all. Things happen in football, sometimes you make mistakes, sometimes it goes well for you, but commitment is not an issue, for sure." #MUFC

🚨🗣️ Kobbie Mainoo on the start of the season: "It's been a tough season, we haven't got the results we wanted, but we need to look forward now. It feels like we're one away from changing it.’’ #MUFC [via @BeanymanSports]
